I can't see any indication that the distributor has been forcefully rotated in the front cover.
I guess the state of the washer proves that the chain was not broken when the washer found it's way down to the crank gear?
Othervise the broken gear and chain could perhaps have caused the broken the distributor shaft before they stopped moving,?
How does the distributor drive gears look, is the state of wear normal for the milage (~110k)?
