This is a long post but I need to get all the inf out there. I recently had my 2002 d2 with 112000 mile on it abruptly start missing at an intersection. I read the code and got back missfires on 1 and 6 and 1300 cat damage. I troubleshot it further and with the help of rovers north decided to change the coil pak on the drivers side, the other one was new 40k mile back so I elected to keep it.I also changed spark plug wires and plugs. I got a new bosch coil pak aftermarket wires and bosch silber plugs from them and installed them last saturday. I drove the truck and got bank 2 o2 no activity, more misfires 3 and 5 and 1300 cat damage again. I also noticed some flat spots and lack of power on acceleration. I searched this forum got info on possible MAF and TPS problems so I cleaned the TPS and checked it OK the Cleaned the MAF and generally checked over my work. I found the pass side o2 sensor disconnected and the cable was damaged by heat. I cleaned it up and replaced it but probably shorted it to ground and blew fuse F2 the Engine management fuse. I cleared the codes restarted the engine. It ran with a marked improvement from before but gave me the 14 codes for the items that get power from the fuse. I found the fuse and replaced it and the engine went back to missfires etc. I towed the truck to the LR dealer and they came up with It needs a valve job etc. I think this is scam no 13 in their book of scams. I have mechaniced for 40 years and heve never seen an instant failure of all the valves. They also couldn't answer me why it runs better in get home mode. It does not miss in get home mode but produces rotten egg smell. it has pretty normal power but needs a little more accelerator to get to it. I need help from all of you in troubleshooting this as the dealer is only interested in a complete tear down. PS the dealer code reader came up with 0301 and 0305 and 1300.
Thanks in advance
Gordon

I know this sounds really simple, but I messed around with a similar problem and after new plugs, wires, a computer reset....I found it was as simple as a fuel filter change.

My fuel filter is in the tank. I'll make a fuel pressure test this weekend though and see if I need to go further. It still confuses me no end that pulling the fuse actually makes it run better. I don't mean a little better but a lot better. The engine idles smoothly and runs about as well as it ever did except for the rotten egg smell and the check engine light. LR mapped good compromise settings when they set it up. I'm pretty sure one of the sensors I disconnected when I pull the fuse is doing this.

I just put a can of techron in the tank and ran it about 20 miles to get it started cleaning, I read the code when I returned and got all the sensor codes but no missfire codes. I'm not sure if the computer will read missfires with the f2 fuse out but it seems logical it can if it can give me the 12 code for everything else.
I'm still hopeful one of you LR gurus will give me some ideas where to go next.
Thanks
Gordon
