Have a new winch, used it for the first time last weekend and the freespool is really tough, you have to really pull to get line out. Will this break in or is there an adjustment necessary?

When you tightened it down in the winch tray you may have caused the winch frame to bind on the drum.

I'm pretty sure that's normal. I have an EPi 9.0 and it does the same thing. It may have gotten easier over time, but I'm not sure.
My X9 is the same way. I had taken it apart and regreased everything to make it smoother. But mine was bought used and sat outside all its life.
Before I mounted it to the truck it was tough too, no line on it then either. I think I will give them a call and see whats up.
Not sure what you call tough but my EPi9 spools out fairly easy. I can pull it with one hand. Compared to others I have had to yank out it's not that bad. But I think it's easier now that I replaced the cable with synth.
