You won't see any change.

I did it because I was tired of ripping mine off, and ran it out the side. I put a flowmaster on it because it's all the guy had. I like the noise, but it won't do anything for performance. You have to do a lot more.

Cheers,

Kennith

What about NRP? I read about improvements - always wondered if they were there. I'm looking at new Y pipe for my D1 this summer.

Id PUT A STOCKER BACK ON AND THEN TAKE IT TO A MUFFER SHOP AND CUT THE MUFFLER OFF AND PUT IN A LARGER STRAIGHT PIPE AND LEAVE THE RESONATOR ON.... YOU WILL SEE A SIGNIFICANT BOOST IN BOTTOM END AND IMPROVED FUEL MILEAGE ...IT WILL HAVE A BIT OF A RUMBLE AT IDLE BUT A HIGHWAY SPEEDS YOU WONT HEAR IT

NRP, Flowmaster.....whatever you put on will make little change. you might think you are, but i don't think it is worth it. head to Midas and have them bend you an exhaust. inexpensive and relatively good.
you wanna spend big $$ on an NRP is fine too, but i'd rather put that $ into tires, suspension or other goodies that actually make a difference.

Mark-why the new Y pipe? did yours break?

Garrett,

This is what my exhaust looks like after a few years on the road:

I think you can see the flowmaster on the second pic.

We had a muffler shop install a flowmaster and a straight pipe and it didn't last too long, even the flowmaster is pretty rusted. Sorry for the bad pic but I don't have one of the whole system. I'll see if I can get a better pic of it this weekend.

Anyway, I plan on installing the SS system from Janspeed. As you know I already have the Headers ceramic coated and ready to be installed, I'm just waiting on the y-pipe, mid muffler and rear section to arrive.

I'm just tired of the thing leaking. The cats and Y have been bashed soo many times that it really doesn't seat well anymore. Part of my interest in the NRP was that it supposedly gets out of the way better. I think I'll have a go with the local shop. The guy builds rock crawlers, so I'm sure he understands the off road issues.

Mark,

One piece I am modifying is the x-member. Instead of using the stock 95 DI x-member I will use the 87-88 RR x-member because it stis lower than the stock one and I'll be able to run the cats and y-pipe above the x-member instead of below.

I got the x-member from Will Tillery.

Hope this helps.

Sounds like a good plan, but I'm holding off on the x member. Hoping to do a 3 link for next winter's project.

Whadya expect, the muffler shop is in NJ!!! Yeah, fortunately I didn't pay much money for the install.

What do you need for the Rangie? I have the two cats with the y-pipe from a 91 RR if you need it. Let me know. They are in good condition.

I had a schmo from Dale's Mufflers :D weld me up one. It Still looks pretty damn good over 2 years later even after being soaked in muddy water repeatedly. Of course, I live in NC. :D They don't salt that much down here.

This summer, a local guy is supposed to be getting a mandrel bender good for 3 inch Stainless. I think he can handle my needs without issues. :D

Cheers,

Kennith
