Hello,
I am a new owner of a 2000 discovery, and I was wondering if there were any suggestions about how to free up what looks like the most ridiculous exhaust system I have ever seen.
My vehicle will be predominantly a pavement queen, and must remain 50 state legal.
Thank you in advance for your time and consideration.

ps - please feel free to tell me the error in my ways, if I am missing some mechanical wizardry in that weird assed exhaust.

If its just the two can's bugging you, cut one off or buy a Borla, like I did. Lifetime warranty. See Rover Connection or Borla website. You want one for a DII. Can be found cheaper if you hunt on-line and you can bolt it up yourself.

Sorry to hijack the post, but DevilDisco, do you have the cat back system or a std stock replacement (maybe this doesn't exist, I'm not sure)? Did you notice any increased MPG? I was thinking about getting one myself.

Im sure he's talking about the lego blockish stock headers. If you are I believe that headman makes a set and can be found on summit.

Yes the stock exhaust probably increases torque because of its back-limiting design but.... god damn a 3 year old with a bunch of lincoln logs could have made something more asthetically pleasing (if thats what youre going for)

I've got the Borla Cat Back System.

As for gas. Not sure still stomping on it.:D But with the dreaded K&N Air Filter its definitely more peppy.

As for mileage.
I'll let you know when I fill up, but I had a really good romp during lunch so that might affect things.

I think the ECU just got used to the Exhaust. My commute normally nets me 14.5mpg for the week. It looks like it will be better this week. Hoping for 15-16mpg for the commute mixed city/highway would be good.

Thank you for your responses,
My question isnt a matter of aethetics, its a question of why the drivers side has a resonator, and the passengers side gets a cat, THEN they merge!, not to mention the manifolds themselves are about the size of a decent coffee stirrer.
My plan is to have mandrel bent tubing meet at a single high flow cat, and to find suitable high-flow mufflers to place in the stock locations.
As far as the manifolds are concerned, if I cant find a reputable manufacturer of ceramic coated "shorty" headers, I will probably buy a set of "stockers" off Ebay, and mill them out (gasket-match) on my own.
If this strikes any of you as sacrilidge, speak soon. :)

leave it to me to not recognize the soup can as a cat!
can anyone give me a rational explaination as to why they have two radicaly different cats?
How on Earth do they regulate the pressure differences?
that all being said, is my idea even feasable?
I may always love this truck, but I'm starting to hear laughter in the back of my brain!

Do they make a header system for DII's?

and I have the Borla as well and its great. I dont dig the Magnaflow that much due to the fact that it makes the truck sound like a massive F-150, but the Borla gives it a very nice rumble :)
