Extended Range / Aux Fuel Tank?

Has anyone ever attempted adding an additional fuel tank to their Disco? It seems there's a bit of room beneath the load space forward of the stocker tank. I don't mind carrying jerry cans to extend my range, but with fuel nearing $3/gal in the states, and the equivalent of $6.45/gal in Iceland, I don't want to make it easier for thieves to steal my gas when I leave the truck unattended.
I know about switchover valves and switches and the associated plumbing, I'm really just wanting to know about the feasability of fitting the aux tank.

Any thoughts on this?

Alex, ARB makes an extended range fuel tank for the Disco. It is sold under the product name "Long Ranger". It is an addition to the existing tank. It sits between the original tank and the fender wall just under the tank filler neck. I have talked to the Aussie contact about buying one, but the cost was prohibitive, about $600.00 with shipping, if I remember correctly. Best of luck and keep us informed of your progress.

Long Rangers are great tanks. You can get 3, a 135 Litre replacement tank for the rear and 2 x 50 litre tanks for under the floor.

I'm interested in finding an extended tank as well. I went searching but I can't find any information on price, either in the U.S. or shipped to the U.S. If anyone has any info please let me know.

Thanks for the tip, but is this to mean that the tank sits outside of the frame rails? Not sure this is what I'm looking for. Do you remember the 70s GM trucks with this type of tank and all the fires they had when hit in the side? Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Nah mate, it sits where the original tank sits, it just takes up more of the under floor space, without hanging out any more than the original tank. They are a solid, well made unit. Probably safer than the OME tank.

I just wish they only cost us 600 notes...
