Just came back from the local tire place (sullivan tire) to get my wheels balanced. This was my final stage of dealing with my high speed vibration and it turns out I need some new tires due to so severe tire degredation in the rear wheels. I don't want to just swap out the back two because it would reek havoc on the drivetrain eventually. They quoted me $1413 for wrangler HP's (stock for my 02 SE7 (believe they are 255 55 18s)) and it included mounting, balancing etc. I know I can get it cheaper else where but not by too much.

This particular rover is my commuter (30 miles each way, half back roads, half highway) to work every day. My question is this: Can I find a wheel tire package on new 16" steel rims, 265s and a new OME lift kit for cheaper than 1400 bucks? I would obviously love to have my disco lifted but i'm worried about paying even more at the pump each month. Thoughts?

Rovertym lift will run close to $630 plus shipping. And somebody around metro Boston is offering a buy 3 get the 4th free deal on any tire. It might even be Sullivan. You can probably bargain on the 5th wheel. I'll look for the ads during the Sox game tonight. Get the BFG A/T's in a 265/75/16 with that lift for where you are and how often you wheel off road. It will probably be the best combo unless you want to go with a M/T and then that will start an enirely huge discussion.

I run M/T's everyday in the city, but I also go off-road no less than once a month. If you do any running on the beaches down there stick with the BFG A/T's.

If you are going for economy, just get the Rovertym springs for $300+ shipping and use the stock shocks until you can afford it. It's been done before.

I just bought 5 Maxxis Bighorn m/t's in 255/85/16 for $750.00 mounted and balanced at Stoney Hollow tire. Do you have to change the rims as well?
The best thing going online is www.tirerack.com when it comes to cheaper tires. If you want wheels and tires try these guys www.ntwonline.com .
I have someone interested in my stock tires 255/65/16 but if it falls through i will make you a deal. I dont have the rims though.

I thought cc was talking about different size tires in the rear (not simply new ones in the same size).

I paid 300 shipped for some used rover 16's, 500 for 5 265/75 and a little over 600 for ome shocks and springs. It was well worth it for the lift and the improved traction and offroad ability of 16's.

Lucas,

I was actually talking about both. I first intended to just get four new 255 55 18s because the mechanic suggested future problems if I only got two new tires. THen I thought for that price tag (1450) I should see if i could get 16's, 265s all the way around and an ome lift. Thanks for the help, I may just end up getting two new tires in the back until I can afford a lift and bfg's.
