Factory DVD player question

Folks, our '03 has the factory DVD player mounted in the ceiling. It also has the CD changer. I'm looking for to integrate a line in iPod and am considering an aftermarket head unit. If I go that route I realize the CD changer will be defeated along with the DVD player through the cabin speakers (fine with that) but my question is will the overhead DVD player still work with headphones? Anyone done this before?

You can use the RCA inputs on the DVD player. Just open the display and hit the speaker button on the DVD player. The cord hangs down; however, you do not have to hack into the wiring.
