Factory trailer plug constant power

Just finished wiring up the Disco II with a powered tailight converter. Ran the power for the converter off the purple constant power lead in the factory trailer plug. Does anyone know what the constant power lead in the trailer plug harness is supposed to be used for? It is the purple wire, top of plug, right hand side. Looks to be about 16 gauge. Not heavy duty enough to be used for powered brakes. Just wondering if it will supply enough amps to power my tailight converter and the trailer lights properly?

I've looked in the RAVE but do not see a purple constant power wire in the diagram. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Typically used in 7 pin connectors for charging the 12v battery on trailers equiped with electric brakes.

That should be able to supply a good 20amps then I would imagine.

I ran a two direct lines from my battery for the trailer brakes and battery charging. Hope the factory power in the trailer plug harness is enough to power the converter safely.

Looking back on it I should of run a third line with a 20amp fuse straight from the battery to the converter box, I still might. I was hoping by splicing into the trailer plug power that my towing light would come on when the trailer was pluged in. Doesn't seen to work that way so there is no real point to use the factroy power.

The two direct lines should work fine. I ran only one for the brake controller and used the power from the factory controller to charge the battery in my trailer. The dealer recommended an auto reset circuit breaker for the trailer controller, which has worked fine up to this point.

I put two 30amp auto reset breakers in line with the brake and charge lines running directly from my battery as well.

If you are charging your battery off the factory power lead it should be robust enough to power my tail light converter.

Did you use a powered converter box to power your trailer lights or just run leads directly from the trailer harness to the right pins on the 7-pin recepticle?
