Family Vacation

On Tuesday evening (6/14), after hours of packing, the family sets off for the beach. The dogs are in the back of my D2, children in the back seat, roof rack loaded with coolers, bikes and clothes. I'm about 10 miles into the trip, cutting across some back-country roads that connect PA and MD- check this road name out- Blueball Rd. to link up with major toll road to beach sites in DE and MD.
I'm moving along at a good pace when coming at me is a low rider Toyota, the car is probably doing 65-70 mph, the passenger crawls out door window and throws a bottle at my windshield. I take a direct hit and of course the windshield cracks into 1000 little pieces. I was fortunate to keep the D2 going straight and come to a stop with no further damage. Chasing them down was pointless, they were gone. My children were going crazy and I didn't feel I needed to traumatize them anymore than they already were. Of course there were no witnesses to get license # or other details.
I call MD State Police and report incident. Since there wasn't much to tell them, they give me a case number over the phone and wish me luck. I call insurance company, AIG, and they simply say, get it fixed and send us the bill. I then call the Parts manager of Land Rover West Chester, PA and tell him my story. He lives 10 miles from my home. He says he'll be in my driveway in less than an hour. Before I have finished unloading all my gear he rolls in with his employee comp Freelander. He swaps vehicles with me, tells me to call the dealership after 9:00 am for update.
I call this morning at 9:30. D2 will be in my driveway this evening at 6:00 pm and we will try it again. Just thought I'd share this story to show there are real dickheads out there and to be careful and there are some really great people out there who make it a little easier dealing with the dickheads.

Thats terrible, I mean...very terrible. I'm glad you and your family are okay and not injured. I can only guess how much you want to take care of those dickheads, trust me, if it came down to someone scaring my family like that...lets just say that I know some friends who know some friends.

Well it sounds like you have a quick turnaround with the repair. It just burns me that idiots like that are out there. I know nothing anybody can say will make you feel better, but they will definitley get their's.

Sorry about your run-in with punk-bitch assholes, but glad that everyone is o.k. and your guy took care of you.

BTW, those little pricks will get what they deserve one day.

Unreal... Probably locals though, so getting a good description out to lots of people in the area may score you a tag number or a name. Whether you go the prosecution route (some states have prosecuted similar situations as attempted murder), or just decide to help their Toyota lowrider change to a bonfire is up to you. Lynchings are illegal now though-

One can only hope...Nice driving btw, keeping it straight and coming to a safe stop. I'm sure that was difficult with a loaded truck, bad brakes, kids screaming, no vision, etc...fucking punks. They'll get their's someday. Karma is a bitch.

Everyone seems to be neglecting the Stand Up Guy that dealer has a parts manager. What he did is how it's supossed to be done.

I bet that dealer has a customer for life.

Absolutely, too bad that this is an extremely rare occurence with Rover Dealerships.

Glad you and the family are OK.

I've had good experiences with both Princeton and Parsippany L/R in Jersey.

One time on the way to work my serpentine belt tensioner pulley bearing disintegrated. I called the dealer, and he sent someone with the part to the parking lot (about 35 miles from the dealership) he did not charge me a penny for delivery. He actually had to do it twice 'cause the first time they sent the D2 version instead of the D1....no biggie 'cause I used the time to take my plastic sill finishers off in preparation for my upcoming sliders.

And I didn't buy the truck from them, and it was no longer under warranty.

That blows man, I thought this was gonna be a cool wheeling story or something.

Few months ago driving on a lunch break with a buddy of mine in his brand new 330ci on a highway. Couple of 16yr old punks fly by, slow down until we catch up to them, minding our own business... they honk, passenger rolls down his window, smiles, and tosses a coke can in my buddy's new ride! Somehow he manages to catch the can and throw it right back at their car, leaving a nice dent on the door. I'm on the phone as we follow the morons, trooper catches up with us, pulls everyone over... Then the best thing ever happens - he calls their parents! 330 got full detail and both of us got $100 for dry cleaning services. I'd much rather settle for 30sec in a room with no windows to school those two

Hey Paul,
Glad no one was hurt. We have alot of those punks here in York Co. I'll be traveling through that area next week. Send me a description of the rig, and the road you were on, and I'll keep an eye out for it.
