On Tuesday evening (6/14), after hours of packing, the family sets off for the beach. The dogs are in the back of my D2, children in the back seat, roof rack loaded with coolers, bikes and clothes. I'm about 10 miles into the trip, cutting across some back-country roads that connect PA and MD- check this road name out- Blueball Rd. to link up with major toll road to beach sites in DE and MD.
I'm moving along at a good pace when coming at me is a low rider Toyota, the car is probably doing 65-70 mph, the passenger crawls out door window and throws a bottle at my windshield. I take a direct hit and of course the windshield cracks into 1000 little pieces. I was fortunate to keep the D2 going straight and come to a stop with no further damage. Chasing them down was pointless, they were gone. My children were going crazy and I didn't feel I needed to traumatize them anymore than they already were. Of course there were no witnesses to get license # or other details.
I call MD State Police and report incident. Since there wasn't much to tell them, they give me a case number over the phone and wish me luck. I call insurance company, AIG, and they simply say, get it fixed and send us the bill. I then call the Parts manager of Land Rover West Chester, PA and tell him my story. He lives 10 miles from my home. He says he'll be in my driveway in less than an hour. Before I have finished unloading all my gear he rolls in with his employee comp Freelander. He swaps vehicles with me, tells me to call the dealership after 9:00 am for update.
I call this morning at 9:30. D2 will be in my driveway this evening at 6:00 pm and we will try it again. Just thought I'd share this story to show there are real dickheads out there and to be careful and there are some really great people out there who make it a little easier dealing with the dickheads.
