I like the two doors and earlies but since Ive never owned one my vote goes for an 87-89. Dont have to bother with ABS. I like the 230 but the 3.9 of the 89 is a bonus. For on road I like the 92 County/LSE. I like the way the seats look and wear, and my 92 has darker rims, thick door moulding, light guards, etc from the factory. Gordo

I am going to have to vote for a 1995 SWB in epsom green like mine, but I could be biased. I have rode in JackW's hunter edition at Tellico. It was my first offroading in a rover and I have been addicted every since.

If anyone is interested, I have an extra set of those TWR wheels (just loke what's on that '95) with almost new Synchrone tires for sale.

John, very nice truck. Looks like you got that from Bear Valley? I think I remember seeing it for sale recently (within the past few months). Very very nice. I'm partial to epsom green too. My D1 is epsom green.

John,
Did you want just the wheels or the tires as well? If just the wheels, I'd have to check with my local tire shop about taking the tires off. Let me know.

Perfect RRC would be a 95 SWB (best heating system)
with 91 Hunter options...

No Sunroof, Cloth Seats,

Then an ABS system with an off switch.

Lift, Roof Rack, Sliders, Rt front and rear bumpers, Winch, etc.

all interior wood trim removed

rubber (discovery 1 style center console) mat, and plastic trim.

Leather and wood must go!

Now that would be nice.

Why not?
I think those were the best years, IMHO.

seriously?

I hate those toothpick trailing links for one.

But mostly, for every decent 89 or 95 I've ever seen I've seen three POS 91s. Haunted by all sorts of tempermental rough running / no start problems.

91-94 is 13cux right?
The 2nd generation of LUCAS licensed EFI.

And the wacky ABS ecu under the seat on those trucks right?

oh and the AC is the WORST on any pre 95 NAS classic.

The only feature I like about the 94-94s is that they have an idiot light for the coolant level. There's a sensor in the expansion tank cap like a brake fluid reservoir. I think that's bitchin. And that 93-94 cap will fit the tank on my disco. I really want to put that cap on my truck and wire it to simple warning light. I just with there was some existing circuit I could use so I don't have some weird bulb sitting out. Maybe the SES light, since I don't have that counter any longer.

Ok, I'll give you that

Most of those were caused by improper repairs making a problem worse. (Not a slam on you)

No, 14 CUX. There was 13 Cu, and 14 Cu then 14CUX. 14 Cux is the only EFI rover made you can get you trouble codes from looking under your seat.
And the wacky ABS ecu under the seat on those trucks right?
Yeah. It was but still ABS trouble codes with a paper clip, engine codes under the seat.

90-94 are the last of the feild servicable rovers.
oh and the AC is the WORST on any pre 95 NAS classic.

How do you mean? Mine gets so cold it's uncomfortable. The temp control sucks, but whatever. :)

It is a cool setup.

The 89's have a coolant level sensor as well, but not cap-mounted as it mounts separately in the metal coolant tank.

It is also a stock BMW sensor that is available everywhere.

I agree that one of the biggest drawbacks of the pre-95's is the crappy ventilation system.

Well, yeah, they do. I've gone through 2 already. Acually, I choose my 90 for the reasons above, but it's converable to a Delco Alternator easily, MSD easily. The oil pump can be swapped in minutes.
THe fuel pump sucks, but oh well.

Overall, you could fix mine, with the parts in hand in a parking lot.

yeah, fuel pump is frequently the cause of those rough running / no start issues mentioned above.

distributor?
wtf is that?

i have four cars and not one distributor.

Diesels?

I know the 97s are GEMS. Yeah, THATS field servicable.

i never suggested that GEMS was more field serviceable.
just seemingly fewer complaints and definitely smoother running.

motronic i also think is a little too finnicky.
