Filter box hose rebuild

After 288k miles, the air hose from the filter box on my D2 to the fender wall has disintegrated. The rest of the box is fine, and the wire coil structure of the hose is intact, but the plasticised fabric is mostly gone.

AB wants $300 for a whole new box with hose. Meh.

Anyone "rebuilt" theirs? With something more elegant than duct tape?

Something like silk covered in plasti-dip might work, but I'd like longevity similar to the original, and I'm not a composites guy.

Noticed you are in OC. Was just at LKQ in San Bernadino on Sat and they had (5) D2's. Most in really good shape - probably blown engines. One's missing a front driveshaft though ;-) You can probably get the parts off them for 15 bucks or less (Correction - they list 6 bucks for large hose). They charged me 18 bucks for the front double cardan drive shaft from a D2 for my D1.

I did black electrical tape. You'd never really know it's there unless you were staring right at it. Blends in well enough.
