Kennith, this thread is now absolutely pointless unless you post a video of you and beaglebones post the video of you two making hot sweaty passionate love with Sade's smooths operator in the background.

And I mean sweaty.

One of the disadvantages of avoiding all those events is not always knowing the gender behind a Discoweb screen name.

Kennith,

I've had a TruTrac in the rear of my 250-kmi Disco for about 150kmi now, and front TT - for the last 80kmi. They do what they need to do, and with a proper left foot application, the airborne wheel will be stopped cold while the other will carry you across.
Not a hint of wheelspin coming across the Golden Crack, if that's any indication.

That said, if Quaife is lighter-tuned, I see some advantages on-road vs. TT.

For those who question the reasons for torque-biasing diffs - this one was built with three Torsens: front, rear, and center. Places that those could go through are insane - which, at the time, made them vastly superior to Forward Control, and close to [much more expensive] Unimogs and 712s.

What's the point of the center TBD when you can so easily lock it?

It comes down to convenience. Having a limited slip center diff just means that for most situations the limited slip is good enough. Having done trails with a few RRCs, they just drive their trucks whereas I have to decide whether I have to lock my cdl before attempting an obstacle.

LOL!! Your phone voice gives you away love......;) I must say reading through this thread has now made me make plans to get unpissed off at my ole rover and straighten out a few things, and yank on some of her hoses, she'll be happy.

They've been lighter in the past when swapped out on similar chassis, but not all their differentials behave the same. They've made a whole business out of tailoring these things to various applications and not telling you precisely how they did it.

I don't know what kind of bias I'll get out of them, but I'm thinking it will be in the 2.25-2.5 range. I could be wrong, though. We'll see.

It's a very big convenience issue, indeed.

It sounds stupid at first, but not having to fuck with that lever is a good thing. Sometimes it's far better to be without the center locked. You occasionally come across a tiny spot where an open diff will stop you, though.

If that happens in the middle of the sand or mud, or if you break through a hard surface into oozy crap underneath, it can be too late. You don't want to run locked all the way through, but all of a sudden you need it.

In an ideal world, you'd use the lever and lock the center differential quickly. The world, however, is not ideal. You're going to have to fuck with it a bit, because you need it to work all of a sudden.

The damned thing will work in the driveway every time, but because you need it now, you'll have to fuck with it. Of course, while the universe is busy fucking you, you'll invariably go from needing to pull a lever to needing to exit the vehicle.

Cheers,

Kennith

A few years ago I put the linkage on mine, it was a bitch, but it sucked having to get out to engage it...:D
