I'm in need of an impact wrench. I will be using it for working off bolts and screws (like the screw holding on the rotor on the DII). Should I just get a 1/2" impact wrench and a 1/2" to 1/4" hex adapter, like this http://www.toolbarn.com/dewalt-dw2298.html

Also, I don't want an air powered wrench. So should I get cord or cordless?

I'll be going to Acehardware and home depot tomorrow to get and idea of what is for sale.

Thanks.

craftsman makes a good electric impact so you may want to try sears.

ace hardware and home depot are kinda known for crap, Home depot does carry milwaukee electric and they have really good electric impacts but for that kinda money you could buy a cheap compressor and a real air powered impact.

the fastener holding the DII rotor on is easiest removed with a hand impact driver you strike with a hammer and those only cost about $15 at most tools places.

I actually just bought one of the hand impact drivers. So hopefully this will work. Thanks.

I have a Dewalt 18v Impact wrench that I purchased back when I had my Drift car. My recommendation is that if you already have a set of cordless tools, be it dewalt, snap on, craftsman, hitachi, milwaukee, stick with the brand you have. That way you have extra batteries. I would recommend cordless, minimum 18v. Cordless because you can take the tools with you wherever you go.

I love my DeWalt tools. great tools.
I would say cordless as well.

i just bought the dewalt electric impact wrench @ home depot. 394lbs of torque for $179.00 no too shabby. i just used it to complete the shock swap out, made everything so easy.

the cordless one were like a hundred more dollars, so i passed. plus i figured the batteries would fail me. who knows?

I just bought a 19.2 volt one from Harbor Freight this weekend;

http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=65817

220lb/ft torque

It was $89.99 in the store... but I had a 20% off coupon, which brought it down to $72.. then I paid an additional $20 for a 2-year replacement warranty.

The only reason I decided to go with it, is after a lot of searching I did see a lot of favorable reviews on it... as always, harbor freight stuff is hit or miss... but with the 2 year replacement warranty, anything goes wrong, i can just walk in the store and get another one.

I used it this weekend on a few bolts, nothing too tight though, so I haven't fully tested it.. but it was powerful enough and did it's job.

My friend has the dewalt corded impact and that thing sucks, it can't even break lugs loose sometimes. Personally I don't like the electric ones, but if I were to get one I'd get a Snap On one. The one I've used has so much power, it twists your hand a little bit when you use it.

I just bought a new impact a couple of weeks ago to replace my Ingersol Rand. I ended up going with a Snap On one that I'm pretty happy with so far, but only time will tell.

As far as removing the rotor screw, you need an impact driver, not an impact wrench...
