Fixed my Doors

I got tired of having to open the front passenger's and rear cargo door with the key so I finally got around to fixing them.

I went to a local boat supply store and bought a couple of feet of 1/8" bungee cord. Picture #1

shows where I tied it pn the rear door and picture #2

shows the bottom tie off for the passenger's door. The last picture

is the top of the passenger's door.

I bought a set of springs to replace the tired / worn out ones in the door mechanism but while figuring out how to replace them I did the bungee thing and it works like a charm.

$2.61 in bungee cord and about 20 minutes later, all is well in the world. Also let a bottle of Sea Foam dribble in while I pulled the door panels.

I love fixes like that, but if your going to go thru the trouble to take the door apart, why not use the springs? Can't believe the bungee cords will last the next ten years...

DeMak,
For the time involved, the bungee cord is the way to go. I remember reading on a thread here a long time ago from someone that replaced those little springs. IIRC they said it was just about the hardest thing they have ever replaced on their Rover.

The bungee literally took 20 minutes for both doors. All you need is a door panel tool and a Phillips head screwdriver. If it lasts this way for six months I?ll be a happy camper. Hell I'd fix it once a month just to keep my wife from bitching that she can't get into the truck!!
FWIW,

It didn't take me that much longer to do the last two (out of three) of my doors by replacing the springs. The first one takes a bit longer to get over the learning curve. 'not hard at all.

I stand corrected then. I would have sworn that I remembered it taking someone hours to replace those things. I'll give them a go the next time I need to work on the doors then.

Any tips or hints? :D :D

Thanks,
Michael
