Well I was going to go camping at FT. Tuthill but they dont have any spaces availible for a tent on the 14th-15th of July. Im planning on going to Lava River Cave and am wondering if anyone has ever camped in the vicinity? Just looking at good places to go with my GF. Im really trying to get her into the backpacking/outdoor thing and she is more than willing. I just dont want her to be bored with the same old AZ desert scenery.

Up on Mingus Mountain there are some side trails that offer some decent camping spots. Head into Cherry off of Cherry Road from I-17, then there's a turn off that will take you up to 89A (NF-132). From NF-132 there are lots of spur trails that lead to camping spots. Some above, some below the tree line.

Otherwise, with temps like they are now, I'd suggest camping around Roosevelt Lake with a boat or a few Jetskis.

I always liked the Munds Park mountain area, I think that's what it was called. It's off of I-17 a little before you hit Flagstaff. there's some really good camping up there and I think a lake or two are there too but I can't say for sure, it's been awhile since I've been in that area.

cinder hill ohv area. it can be pretty noisy and anoying with all the rice rockets and quads and all the fox and no fear stickers but...... if you go back in a ways, then go back a ways farther, it gets better and quieter. weekends are real busy but during the week its MUCH better and more relaxing. the scenery is way cool too. just air down way low and dont slow down. its north out of town on 89A (i think)

Try The Lake Mary Area In Flagstaff. Has some nice trails for light wheeling right off the road, and decent camping spots.
