My project 1998 disco is throwing codes:
P0300 (cylinder misfire) p0303 (cylinder 3 misfire), p1316, p1314, p1313 with a flashing CEL. Not sure what the 13xx codes are for.

My code reader says

It's also flashing low oil at idle only after it's driven about 20min. Not sure if that's related. Clean oil.

History: the heads were rebuilt by PO's shop. Also new fuel pump. New alternator. Looks like newer MAF but can't be sure.

Doesn't idle too bad at all. Accelerates fine. At highway speeds it will lope a little when accelerating.

Any ideas? CPS maybe? Thanks

from the GEMS OBD manual (page 13)....
Catalyst Damage Bank A Misfire Fault P1313
Catalyst Damage Bank B Misfire Fault P1314
Excess Emissions Misfire Fault P1316

Could be your cats are on their way out....or already toast.

The manual can be found in the RAVE link in my sig. D1 section. gems_obd.pdf

By itself P1313 or P1314 or P1316 does not mean the catalytic converters are bad - just that there were misfires frequent enough to dump unburned fuel into the cats to potentially cause damage (neither of this codes indicates the condition of catalytic converters).

P0303 is far more specific - if I had any of the cylinder-specific codes, I'd pull the spark plug and try to figure out what was going on. It may be a collapsed lifter, or stuck valve, or leaky injector, or bad spark plug or wire.

Oil light - you need to verify what is your oil pressure at warm idle. It may be just the sensor, or you may have issues coming up.

For those faults I probably wouldn't even bother with any diagnostics. I would throw a set of spark plugs and ignition wires on it. They are cheap and it is regular maintenance.

One thing that can cause some running issues is the crank position sensor wiring. The shielding on the wires falls apart near the sensor and causes the wires to short together. It is pretty easy to depin the connector and put some heat shrink tubing over each wire.

The oil light is more than likely due to the fact that your motor is close to 20 years old and is probably pretty worn at this point. A thicker oil would be the cheap fix. 15W40 Rotella is pretty good and available everywhere.

Thanks guys.

It looks like new plugs and wires from the rebuild. Doing a search on here I found a post from 2007 with similar issues that eventually led to a bad coil pack. I just so happen to have a spare one so I'll try that out this weekend.

Good idea to check the CPS. Where exactly is it located?

Found it. The connection just comes right off when I pull. It will sit fine but doesn't click. Unplugging it and repluging it didn't seem to help.
