The 2011 Florida Land Rover Club Fall Rally will be held in the Citrus tract of the Withlacoochee State Forest. We will make camp and stage out of the Holder Mine Campground. All sites are full elec / water hookup at a cost of $20 per night.
As the Rangers and Officers love to remind us, although we hold a permit to the campground and have the pavilion reserved, we do not poses the sole right to use the area so come early if possible... we will reserve as many spots as possible. I will arrive on Thursday the 27th (maybe Wednesday) for setup and some early trail running.
The trails are in good condition as far as articulation and moderate challenge. Collectively, some of us have scouted Osceola, Richloam, Ocala and Citrus. There is hardly any water anywhere this year so there is no need to be disappointed in this location. For the folks who have not been here before or who are new, Citrus is a great area to ride. The trails can range from light and easy with no chance for pinstripes to off camber hill climbs with deep ruts and steep 35* side leaning washouts. If you don't want to break your HSE then there are plenty of trails for you. If you want to climb, wade or cross axle your trail rig and pop out your springs (looking at you Kaz) then we have some fun for you too.
The Holder Mine Campground has plenty of space for us and all sites are electric and water hookup. The restrooms and showers are in good shape and best of all there are no paved roads to travel to get to the trails. All trails are accessed via fire road from Holder Mine Camp.
We will have some in camp fun for the families. Movie nights on Friday and Saturday night for all ages. If you have some good DVD's of trips, adventures or Camel Trophy events let me know. I have a copy of the Excel Trophy from '99 in Ocala I'll bring. I also have a copy of In Search Of the Experience to show and hopefully some copies to give away. The B-B-Q dinner will be available at $10 per person on Saturday night. There will also be a theft-free swap meet on Saturday and no crack dealers will be in attendance.
I can guarantee a group of us will peel off from the trails at Citrus to head over to Hard Rock OHV park as well.
I'm really looking forward to this rally and seeing everyone again! Check back often for more details about the in camp activities, the Saturday night raffle prizes and other details.
SPECIAL MEMBERSHIP DISCOUNT - If you are a new member to the club and attend the Fall Rally (new member must sign up and pay membership dues to qualify) you will receive a $5 discount off your 2011 Fall Rally fee AND you will receive two free raffle tickets to the Saturday night raffle drawing. See you all very soon.
