I headed out for some early fall fly fishing this last weekend on a northern wisconsin river.

The weather was great with temps in the low 80's and even though we have had low water this particular river had good flow and most of the better stretches had plenty of water to keep the undercut banks wet and the rocky stretches covered with small mouth.

I was targeting musky fishing some big 10" streamers knowing that the bruiser smallmouths will jump on those fly at this time of year as well. I caught 10 smallies all between 19"-23" . I also caught 2 nice musky as well.

All in all a great day of wade fishing on a spectacular river.

LOL iphone pics...I have to say it is handy but the quality is pretty knarley.

that stretch of river is pretty remote and a great place to get away to, I hope I can get up there yet this fall before the temps drop to much and push the fish off the shallow stretches.

yeah but those pics motivated me enough to drive out to the Boise South Fork river and hang out a litlle bit and let my boys run around and play today. It was only for a couple hours but it was still a nice break.

I didn't do any fishing but there was plenty of people out there doing so. I had to make sure there wasn't anyone around us though since I trying to show my 5 yr old how to skip rocks, I don't think they would of been too happy. haha

well then I am glad they motivated you :)

Are you getting your boys flycasting yet? Its amazing how quick young kids pick it up. My daughter was about 4 when I started putting a fly rod in her hand. She picked up the timing and rythum of it very quickly.

Set them up with a kaufman stonefly nymph pattern with a strike indicator and they are bobber fihing for trout and where you live I would think they would be getting some wonderful action!

I don't do alot fishing anymore so the last time I took my kids fishing was when my oldest(the 5 yr old) was 3 and it was more of a game than anything but we usually get plenty of camping and a little bit of hiking done in the year; which I kinda want to get out one more time this year before it gets too cold.
