Since I didn't get a response in the Tech section....How much does a 03 op a 04 DII with a TD5 cost in Panama? In US dollars please
cmondieyoung said:This isn't the first time I've seen a thread about the TD engines.
If you're living in the US, why would you want one?
The 4.0 V8 is gutless as it as, why want something even wimpier? The 300TDI engines put out, what, 120 hp?
Don't tell me it's about gas mileage. You can't buy a Discovery and then complain about the MPG... If you're living somewhere where gasoline is exhorbitantly expensive like Europe or S. America, fine, whatever.
But I just can't agree with someone that wants to putt-putt around town in an imported diesel just because it gets 23 mpg.
What's the fascination with Euro TD engines? Can someone enlighten me?

how about range, braniac?
on a long trip to a remote spot two jerry cans of fuel means 300 miles on top of the 600+ you got out of the tank.
i'd go for that.
cmondieyoung said:Range? NINE HUNDRED miles? What, are you trekkin' the Gobi? Or just seeing if you drive from Dallas to LA without filling up?
Even if it meant carrying a few : gasp: extra jerry cans, I'd feel much more comfortable pulling X-hundred pounds up Lion's Back with a admittedly wimpy V8 than waiting for my turbo to kick in at a particularly tight spot.
Brief pause? Yikes..
Under all that weight, roof rack, winch, sliders, underbody protection, etc, I'd wonder how much more effecient a 2.5 litre engine would be.
I want my truck to drive like a truck, not like a Honda S2000.
So where are my party beads? In the mail yet? The disco is sad since he has none...RoverChic said:LOL!!!! Chris it was making me sick at my stomach
3.0 or bust dude! ROAD TRIP!!! Just think party beads!
texmotoII said:Thanks for the info Panama. If you see a used TD5 03 or 04 DII, please post it or email me at dsum@mindspring.com. As to why I would like a TD5, mileage, better out of country fuel availability. Besides, what's wrong with getting 23 mpg while driving around town? I guess getting only 12-13 mpg around town is "smarter".
texmotoII said:You're correct; you do not want to know. Besides, I'm not telling.
