1996 Discovery XD ? Eco Challenge $9500.00

This is one of 35 (I think) that were made in 96 for the Eco Challenge Adventure race. It was used as a support vehicle. It still has the original hood decals from the race. It has 98,500 miles on the odometer. All scheduled maintenance has been performed on time since I?ve owned it. Overall condition is good. Mechanically it runs well, I drive it every day.

It does have some damage on the passenger side. The previous owner rubbed up against a tree while off-road. There is a dent on the top part of the passenger doors. (See pictures) The paint is in decent shape.

The front brakes are new oem LR rotors and pads; just changed this summer. The rear rotors are still in good shape but will need new pads soon. The master cylinder was replaced last week because it was leaking.

I have made many modifications to the vehicle. Some modifications were done by the previous owners. Some of them were inferior and I subsequently corrected them. Namely, suspension, wheels, and tires. The vehicle is now set up as follows:

Suspension: 3 inch Old Man Emu
OME HD Springs (764?s front, 763?s rear)
OME Shocks
EE 1? spacers and spring retainers in rear
EE stainless brake lines
Rovertym trailing arms
Safari Gard drop kit
Rockware Tie Rod
Rockware Drag link and Steering Damper Relocation kit (OME Damper)
Great Basin Rovers double cardon front drive shaft
New u-joints in the rear drive shaft.

Protection:
Rovertym Front Bumper
Rovertym Rock Sliders
Safari Gard Rear Bumper w/ skidplate
MJ Lee Diff Guards
Rockware rear pinion guard

Additional:
Warn XD 9000i Winch w/ roller fairlead
Safety Devices Adventure rack
2 Hella 3000?s on rack
Rear ladder
Rear Taillight guards
235x85 Goodyear Wrangler MTR?s (1 year old ? 6000 miles)
Discovery steel wheels
Waterproof seat covers
CB radio

If interested feel free to contact me by email (greg_bright@adp.com) or you can call me at 502-777-3339. I will have the pictures posted later this afternoon. I just have to download them off my camera.

Shawn,
Thanks for the compliments. I've tried to keep it looking nice. I have a friend here locally that does a great job with the buffer. He really made the paint shine when I bought it. For the life it has lead, it's in pretty good shape. Only real bad spot is the passenger side doors. They've got a pretty good dent in them. I always said I would have it fixed, but the other modifications always seemed to take priority.

Hey Greg, I haven't spoke with you since, but I bought the ladder off your old D2 just a few days after you got the XD. Do you have plans to replace the XD with another Rover, or are you getting something else? I have met with JP, and Jay from the KRC but there doesn't seem to be much action going on there. If you ever plan on going out on any trips please let me know so I can tag along, if you don't mind. Good luck with the XD!

Stuart,
Hey there, hopefully things have been going well for you. Yes, I am getting another Rover. I'm buying an 04 Disco. I really miss my series 2. Offroad, I like the XD better, but on road and around town I prefer the series 2 much better. Even when they are both lifted and have larger tires, the series 2 is much more comforatble to me. There was a day that I would never admit this publicly, but I like the comfort level and the luxury of the series 2. I used to not care about that much, but as I get older, have children, travel for work, etc. I'm finding the comfort and luxury are becoming more important to me.

Also, I miss the stock feel. I'm probably not going to modify this new one much. (at least that's my story for now). To be honest, most of the wheeling around me can be done in a "stock" series 2 anyways. My new one is going to be a Bonatti Gray SE with tan interior. Rich at LR Louisville has one lined up for me. I'm getting a great deal on it. But, i need to sell my XD so please someone buy it from me. I have it on Autotrader, but I would love to sell it to someone here instead.

Once I get my new one and go offroad I'll let you know. We can go to Natural Bridge or something.

Catch ya later.

Well I know that XD is sweet I saw it that day I was over, then I have passed you a few times in the last few months up on Gene Snyder. Definitely get ahold of me, if you are keeping your new one stock, then I have a buddy with a stock DII who likes to go out as well, and it will make it easier for him. I was actually up at Stump Cave two weeks ago, and we were hoping to make a snow run up there soon. Unfortunately we have gotten all this snow right before Christmas, which isn't a great time to get people out of the house. So we will probably have to wait until the next big snow system moves through to go up there. Maybe some good pictures of the XD with a white background, would help it sell quick??

Greg,

Where are you located?

I'm interested, but I have a few questions:

Roads are salted in Tenn., how much rust is there on the frame and underpinnings? How about around the alpine windows?

Are you able/willing to transport it to Northern California?

Is there anyone in the area who can do a fair and objective inspection on your truck?

I want a vehicle that I can immediately (and reliably) put into service as a Search & Rescue & disaster support truck.

Your truck does look like what I am looking for.

Please contact me directly via email and leave your contact info. make sure you send it under the subject heading of "97 XD DISCO" in capital letters so that it stands out from all the Spam.

I'll send you my phone numbers.

Thanks,

Rich Lee
