just out for a stroll in the woods behind my parents again the other day and found this truck all busted up just sitting in the woods. i asked my brother about it since he rides is dirt bike back there and he said its been stuck on a cliff for months but someone just pulled it out i guess. sucks all the windows are bust out, there was a half shaft laying next to it but didn't belong to this wagoneer and a snapped winch rope around the front axle. makes me wonder if who ever is pulling it out actually owns it

Damn shame. Wagoneers are actually pretty decent trucks once you rebuild the engine and trans. Surprised no one has scavenged it yet because those tires and axles are worth something. If it has the Dana 300 transfer case then that is worth a couple hundred.

never seen a bronco with rear steering. :p

This truck was stuck pretty good.

We actually met the owner and his friends on their way up to try and retrieve it. Few good ole boys w/ cowboy hats in a monster Bronco with air horns and lights.

If I saw either of those trucks left like that in Arizona, I'd bet they were stolen. Either way, they'd be stripped in a week or so.

+1.
This truck most likely has NP229 transfer case - full/part time, chain-driven, aluminum case. Not bad, but not particularly great.
Also, this truck has a Chrysler TF727 transmission which is pretty damn hard to kill, I doubt it needs any rebuild.
The axles are Dana 44 front and rear, with left side drop in front and centered rear.

That said, it would probably be cheaper to buy a good one than to restore this one.

the front drive shaft definatley favored the left frame rail when i looked under it.

it looks like it could move under its own power, but the chain tied to it stretched out in front leading to the ifs half shaft laying in the dirt makes me think someone that don't own it is trying to take it somewhere

does it talk to you and drive itself?
Don't they all...
I miss the exhaust smell of my 79's 360... After I sold it, I wowed never to buy a emission-controlled, carburetted vehicle again.
But... its original motor ran with zero oil pressure, and with half the coolant, for a month before starting its graceful decline. And when I retired it, the only wear of mechanical parts was in the top end, not the bottom.

yeah, amc engines make you smell like you've been mowing the lawn all day. Kinda hard to have a suit gig and drive one.
