Fox Shock Hitting Frame

I got a set of Fox 2.0 shocks for my 2000 DII. They seemed good at first but then I noticed a noise whenever the rear went over a large bump. I seems that the shock body is impacting the frame/bracket.

It looks like I could grind away some of the frame to give some clearance. However, they are supposed to be bolt in. WTF?

I'm pretty sure the stock bolt is metric and the fox shocks use a SAE 1/2" bolt. So one is slightly smaller than the other one and would allow the shock to move.

Yes. The factory bolt is 11mm and the heims on normal fox shocks are 1/2" just enough to rattle around in there..

Did you get the shocks from L8?
Those should have the 11mm inner diameter bushings, making them "direct bolt it" but you will still need to trim the upper mount as has been stated. I used a grinder to clearance mine.

If yours are rattling around then you may have to use 1/2" hardware instead or get the step downs from Eshocks..

I wouldn't mess around with special step down spacers, etc. Get a 1/2" bit and ream out the mounting hole and nut on the other side. Get a longer 1/2" bolt and slap in it there. And grind down the ears on the mount.

I got the shocks from Rovers North. I tried to get them from L8 but they refused to ship them to Canada.

The factory bolts are a very snug. I don't think 1/2" bolts would even fit (I'll try later). I suppose I will have to clearance the brackets.

Does anyone have any pics of what they have done to their brackets?

I used a grinder to trim the outer mounting flange, then used a spacer to move the shock to outside so it doesnt hit on the inner mount.
Now I remember why I used the factory hardware on the rear uppers. The nut that is welded to the frame was too much of PIA to remove, so I just got the adapters. I did cut the nut off the bottom, opened up the hole and used 1/2" hardware\\\

The 1/2" sae bolt would not pass through the shock bushing.

I assume the factory mounting bolts are metric.

That's a scary tight fit. I hope that shock does not arc outward too much during articulation. Otherwise you might end up with the shock body binding against the outer mount.

There is room between the mount and the shoulder of the shock. Not much.. but there is room. Ive had them on since August. So far no issues on or offroad.
I'll keep on eye on it to make sure though..

Here is better picture of the same shock. In the first pic, the shock was turned all the way to one side. Here you can see the other spacer that still gives it room to move side to side if needed.

You have to do the same with the 7100's…You really need a spacer on the both sides of the shock mount for misalignment. What we've done is grind spacers to .075 and use them on both sides, it keeps the shock off the mount. Interesting that you can't fit a 1/2" sae bolt thru the bushing on those. I wonder if it's a special order thing. When I've re-built them, I always used a -8 Heim with a 1/2" sae bolt spacer
