I have a few questions concerning the freelander. We all know that ground clearance is the biggest offset of the freelander, so is their any lift kits for the freelander, and does OME provide any suspension lifts for this particular land rover. How about lockers could a freelander be fitted with ARBs. Waitng for answers.

Happy Rovering,

 I know it might sound funny to alot of people, but I am neither familiar with the suspension setup nor the drivetrain of the freelander. So once again why is it impossible to fit ARB air lockers to a freelander. I did learn that it has no Low range, and had independant suspension all around. Is it mechanically impossible or just unusual to have lockers?

Thank you

Don't think there are any that will fit. A lift with the idependant suspension will create a wicked set of chamber problems, you jsut can't really lift it without screwing the suspension geometry. Look at what a 3-5 inch lift requires on a Montero, the IFS is not fun.

There are 2 companies making up to 2" suspension lifts for Freelanders. DAP offers a kit and Iron Man I think might still be making them. Give DAP a call and Steve can fill up in on them. As for lockers... I havent seen them yet in a Freelander.

OK, a Sami is better than a Disco on rock, due to its siamese size. However, a Freelander with a lift? First off, the Freelander does not deserve the Rover nameplate. I am surprised that Rover actually created it. For starters, all it is is a wanna-be SUV, in fact it resembles Ford's Escape- escape to what? The mall? The supermarket? The soccer game? Its not going anywhere precarious, or is it? I would love to see a Freelander conquer the Camel trophy or the Trek contest. C'mon, this is not a truck, its a glorified Subaru Forester!!

Actually..... 1998 Tierra Del Feugo Camel Trophy had freelanders in it.... I've wheeled with freelanders a bunch of times... they can handle the blues at Paragon / Rausch Creek without a problem as long as they have a good driver and good spotting.. you can put a 2" Iron Man / Dap lift on them, skids, etc.. and still be rather capable.. I personally prefer my disco.. but don't be so quick to jump to conclusions..

Yeah, speaking from real experiance of actually wheeling my own Freelander, it does surprisingly well in all conditions other than real rock trails. With no low range, its just not a rock crawler. Kind of choakes a bit on uphills as well where you could use the lower umph got get up stuff. But other than those 2 points, mine wheels very nicely.

Guys I know it might sound pretty funny to a lot of people, but really a freelander satisfies a lot of people's need for off roading. Here in Lebanon where I live we are not all into rock crawling, as in any other country. Some favor mud bogging, some favor 4x4 rallying, some favor snow and ice driving, and ofcourse you've got your famous rock crawling crowd. Personally I'm into light off roading since I'm looking for a 4x4 that I would mainly use to be able to get to where I need to camp, hunt, haul gear, and mountain climb. So you see why my interest in the freelander. I don't intend to build an extreme rock crawler just a regular yet capable off roader for everyday use

OME, DAP, Iron Man, Straight Up Lifts, and Celtic 4x4 all sell lifts for the Freelander. Fit some bigger tires and you can safely gain 4 inches of lift, more if you don't care about CVs. You can custom fit some lockers but you won't gain much over the ETC. Fitting a Torsen center diff might be a good step, but I don't know anyone who has done that.

What rock have you been living under? Whatever it was, it had a Freelander run over it. There have been a number of events where Freebies have kicked some butt - G4, Camel etc and local here in the USA. A few MAR's ago, a few of them were out in the mud with the best.:applause:

What you fail to understand is that a basic LR vehicle, with the right driver and a good set of tires can keep up with a tricked out truck with a gorilla at the wheel. That's been proven over and over again.:p
Sure you can say what you want about it being a wannabeaLandRover, but without it LR probably would have gone under. It's the most popular suv in Europe, btw. LR cannot compete anymore making 'conventional' trucks (with or without Ford in control) - too complex, heavy, inefficient etc. etc.
So, get out from under your rock and get over it - LR makes different vehicles today, in the same way as the first RR was different to the Series LR's:rolleyes:
