The vendor section will get you started.

The axle shafts in Discos work well until you get lockers, then it is highly advised to upgrade.

The most popular axle upgrades are available through Great Basin Rovers (also does diff and drive shafts and more) I believe the axles are maxidrive.

Getting more popular are rovertracks at: http://www.rovertracks.com.

Both are good guys.

For something more hardcore you are looking at a full housing swap most likely. Likely Dana, Salisbury or the Volvo or Mog portals (yeah right).

There are also some people that swap diffs for a Toyota diff then you get different axles as well. Sift through the recent threads and/or search, there are a ton of discussions on this topic.

Chris,

You sentance should read...

"Read somewhere sometime ago that the rover axles are similar in strength to the Dana 44 when upgraded to the Toyota inner axles, CVs, and 3rd members"

JW,

Dana 44 (front or rear) is a stronger axle than Rover's front or rear. Which doesn't mean it is a better axle.
Dimension-wise, Dana 44s from 74-79 Wagoneers are nearly identical to Rover axles. By welding a few brackets, you may be able to have them under your future Disco. It is actually easier than replacing Jeep axles with Rover axles, as I have learned.
But, if you were ever to take on a project like that, I'd suggest calling Currie Enterprises first.
