Front Wheel Drive Discovery!!!

Have a question. Winter has hit and my '03 Discovery only has the front two tries doing any pulling in the snow. The back tires wont spin at all when in the snow and it is basically driving like a front wheel drive car. My question is that we hit a slick spot and the ABS light and the Hill Decent light and the traction control light all came on. It throws an error code of 1590 which is ABS Rough Ride Sensor I think.

Anyway would the combination of these three lights being on make my vehicle not utilize 4 wheel drive or is something just boke and not engaging that I need to have looked at?

Any help is appreciated!!

Thanks!

I think you are mistaken

the 03 has a open center differential so if anything in the rear driveline were to fail the truck would not drive anywhere.

what makes it act like front wheel drive?

I would guess that whats happening is the ABS/TC/HDC are out so you are simply spinning the front end because it has the least weight on it. thats how a D1 acts in slippery conditions.

Yeah I think your right I think since the Traction Control Light is stuck on it just isn't doing anything and spinning the least resistent tire which is always up front. Basically if I try and go a little bit on snow it just spins ans struggles and now TC noise is coming from anywhere like it should. Also.....when turning and accelerating it has a very, very hard time not sliding and making the turn.

If those three lights are on does the TC become disabled?

Thanks!

I am doing that at the moment.....seem to be finding mixed reviews wether it disables TC.

My ABS still works fine. Just not getting any TC and bad sliding and only spinning in the front tires.

Well I think that is my problem for having a one wheel drive vehicle. Need to find a mechanic to clear them.

Anyone know the cheapest device that can read and clear codes? My ODB-II can't clear them. A place to buy it would be good also.

Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!

the fault turns on the lights the lights dont turn off the function.

you need to have someone read the slabs codes and figure out whats making the TC not funtion.

the fact that you ABS works but not the TC is kinda different.

My lights pop on all the time and it shows a rough road code most often when they do. I also have had the pads get to thin and trigger the lights and the ground wire in front of the air box. the only time the functions didnt work with the light on was when the ground wire was the issue and that was when the truck was almost brand new .

bottom line is there isnt any room for guessing on these ...pull the codes and repair the fault.

I dont think there is a affordable shade tree type device for the slabs, so you will need to find a shop that has the equipment.
