Has anyone looked at the relay?

I've fixed countless cruise controls and have yet to encounter a bad ECU.

Lots of bad vacuum lines, some bad switches on the steering wheel, occasionally the pump, occasionally the relay, but NEVER the ECU.

BTW-the relay is special and is the only application on the truck for that relay.
edit-nobody did a search did they? Many discussions on this topic previously.

Would you mind directing me to the exact location of said relay? RAVE is somewhat unclear as to which individual one it is? Also, how much for a new one to 60046? Thanks.

If you study Rave, you will find it shows a photo of where the relay is and the connector wiring etc.
The description of how the cruise works will indicate the relay identification which you can then search (use the binocular symbol at the top).
You will find it behind the right hand side kick panel. I think its called the cruise lockout relay. Pinpoint it by getting the wire colors off the schematic and looking for them on the relay connections.

I modified my Disco from auto to 5 speed when I did my diesel conversion so I ended up by-passing that relay with a jumper wire.

If you do the troubleshooting guide in the 96 repair manual and check the signals to the ECU connector this will soon tell you if your relay is suspect as you will get no 12 volt input. This works for later years too Mine is a 99 SD

I still believe the D1 ECU's deteriorate with age. When I get a chance, I will open up the ECU that I had repaired and take some pics. That way I should see which components needed replacing and maybe I can fix the other dead ones that I have.

It seems that typically they work from time to time. Sometimes when they dont work, switching them off then back on again will make them work Eventually they stop working all together. That seems to be the pattern.
