Happy to answer all questions. I bought it for my dad since I love my D1 so much. He likes American cars. So it's been in his backyard since I bought it. On non-op, therefore no back registration fees due or anything. Feel free to PM me with your number or email.

How about some basic info?

Why is it inop?
What's the interior like?
Maint history?
Known issues?
Paint condition?
Clear title?
Tire condition?
Mods?
What works what doesn't?

This isn't rocket science. I spent 3 weeks trying to by a truck. I'm amazed at how hard it is to give someone money. Ads like this are infuriating. People shouldn't have to pry basic info from you when you are selling something.

People shouldn't have to pry basic info from you when you are selling something.

Ambiguity should come with a price premium. If you don't provide basic information, that automatically lowers the price of the truck. By not making a good faith effort to do this a seller is either deliberately concealing information about the vehicle's condition or doesn't care enough to make the effort, in which case he isn't genuinely interested in making a sale. In either case a buyer would have grounds to make a lower offer to mitigate risk.

Truck operates.

Registered to just sit - probably just a CA thing. Smog and pay registration fees for operational registration in CA (again, no past due fees as the registration is current - just non-op).

No maintenance history. Didn't come with the truck and we've done nothing with/to it because it just sits in the backyard.

Electric seats don't move. The seat lever that covers the mechanism to tell it to move is broken off. I think the parts are still there. Driver's side window is off it's track. Parts are there. Should just be some elbow grease. There's a ticking noise coming from somewhere. Maybe tires. Maybe a battery. Lever to pop the hood is broken (currently uses a wrench which works fine).

Paint and interior photos in Craigslist link (thank you @squirt for posting). Hood and roof are oxidized. Driver's seat has tear. Everything else is pretty good.

I didn't check the title status when I bought it. Was told it was clean. From what I see there's no reason for it not to be a clean title. I can provide the VIN should you wish to check.

Tires look older and don't have an extraordinary amount of tread. If you're seriously interested I can get photos for you or you can come by and see them in person.

I think the above answers the what works and what doesn't question. At least to my knowledge. Please let me know if there was something I missed or any additional information you'd like.

Seller sounds like he's giving an honest representation of the Disco - he doesn't know much about it and that is that. At $975 I don't know how much everyone expects to learn. Assume the thing is a dog and needs a new engine, or maybe you get lucky and it just needs some TLC. At $975 for a '99 D1, I'd take the chance if I had the time and it was local.

No kidding; it's not an NAS 110 with a six-figure price.

Yea after he was asked a few times for simple basic info. I think it's expected and curtious to give simple info with anything you sell. Especially online. Weather that's a car or truck or a couch. Even at 975 it's still a chunk of change to spend. Unless you live down the street from the guy. But he posted on the world wide web. Put a few basics. Weed out anyone looking to drive it home to Canada. I don't think it's unreasonable to list something like

99 Discovery
123456 miles.
Runs drives and stops

I don't know much about this I bought it for my sick grandmother and a house fell on her blah blah blah. I can see it needs new hoses. Tires are square. Belt is crap. Drives like poo. Paint looks like it has a skin disease. Smells like a bowling alley inside. The headliner tickles you while you drive. Come take it away I don't feel like dealing with it. 900 Bucks. Done

That took less than a minute to type. Now I know I can pursue or walk away. He probably spent longer signing up to the forum then writing the ad. I have wasted HOURS of my life chasing down sellers for basic info. Everyone rags on buyers on CL the sellers are just as bad.

No it's not a high dollar item. Absolutely right. But if this one post wonder can't take 2 min to type an ad why would I drive there 2 hours to check it out or go get it? Maybe I'm wrong and my ads are too long. I like to think I weed out anyone not interested, leaving people who might actually buy it left to contact me. Makes my life easier and a buyers life easier.

The generally-accepted DiscoWeb ad format for vehicles is:

What it is, year, miles, price.

Then list the good, bad, and the ugly and a few pics.

Agreed that the original ad was sub-standard but again, its a '99 D1 for only a thousand bucks. Hell, if he was in Phoenix I probably would have PM'd him and jumped on it and just stashed it in a storage unit for a couple years.
