In my experience "Christians" traditionally have the least amount of tolerance towards people that have differing faiths and beliefs, both personally and religiously. As I've said before religion does more to divide people than any other "device".

These folks represent the extreme end of things. I'd imagine they do actually believe in what they are doing however screwed up it may be.

That being said I consider myself a Christian without any ties to a specific religion or group.

You obviously don't know many islamists Garrett. You may think they're tolerant but they aren't and even believe it okay to lie if it betters their agenda.

Well, it's 8 o-clock here and those assholes are down at my Church protesting.... Today should be an interesting day to watch the news.

Glad I have training and work today, I don't have the option to go see them for myself...

I didn't read all the way through the thread, but I am pretty sure some states now have laws against protests at funerals because of this group.

Yeah, that piece of shit came here when a kid that I went to high school and jr high with was beaten and killed cause he was gay (Matthew Shepard) and they protested at his funeral saying he was burning in hell. So, the city council passed a law banning protesting at funerals for like 300 yds or something.
I find it slightly ironic also that he comes from Topeka Kansas and the zip code there starts with 666xx.

here's one that did....

No I don't, but that sure sounds like alot of Christian leaders I know. I just can't stand how hypocritcal they are. I can think of a few that live in a big white house about 60 miles from me. ;)

I hear you! I think we actually are about the same on this subject. Every time in my adult years that I have tried to find a church something always drives me away. It isn't usually the message but the messenger! I find my church these days is most times in the wild, standing in a river with my fly rod or on top of a mountain on foot or in the rover but almost always by myself without distractions. That is when I am closest to God.

Cheers,

Mike

Mike,

I grew up (along with my siblings) attending various Catholic and Luthern private schools. My brother was the lucky one that ended up at John Burroughs Academy in St. Louis, but my sister and I dealt with the shit storm that was preached to us daily at our schools. It was all about fear and if we didn't follow them and their "word" that we would end up with guilt that would follow us around our entire life. In short it as very fucked up the way these people attempted to "teach".

There are plenty of great churches, priests and ministers out there that are more in touch with communicating with the people that attend their services and less interested in preaching the word of God as they interpret it. That is what it comes down to with me.........how you interpret the bible, what it contains and how that might help others.

Stop trying to rope the "followers" into some other agenda and they will be much more gracious and willing to listen.

I know many recovering Catholics but never met a recovering Lutheran LOL! I grew up going to a Methodist church. The Methodists tend to be more open-minded but there is just something about organized religion as a whole that turns me off. I am very conflicted these days as I have two little girls that I feel need to go to church but I'm afraid of the BS that goes along with that. I don't want them "indoctrinated" but I do want them to know God. It is really hard raising kids these days.

Cheers,

Mike

Those guys rock, one of their riders sons is in my battalion. They all signed a flag and and the guys dad rode from Kansas to NC to present it to our battalion with it flying off the back of his bike.
That is an awesome sign of patriotism! As far as too much anger towards these asshats...how can you even come close to displaying enough anger towards the very people that are promoting hate and discrimination.

Oh the Lutherns I knew in the mid-west were some "God fearing" folks. They toss the devil in there for good measure. The Lutherns in PA were nothing like the ones in Missouri.
In my opinion they were (generally speaking) VERY ignorant people.

Faith does not equate to Religion, unfortunately most people assume Religion and Faith are the same.

It is a shame that this group does not use the obvious talents they have to help lift up those around them, instead of knocking people down.

peace man, peace, this is far from religion if its charged with anger, intolerance and well, the term 'fight for peace' is a bit of a risky phrase, I know I am sounding likely too eastern for this topic..

These people exist because we the people tolerate it. We the people turn a blind eye. We the people deny or justify what we know is wrong. We the people want to bitch instead of acting. This has garnered attention because it is well funded and organized. It will take the same funding and organization to defeat it.
