Fuel Filter Replacement - 96 D1

My 96 Disco 1 has 180K miles. I am getting really lousy gas mileage and it sporadically looses power when I?m freeway driving. It hesitates and almost seems like I am running out of gas.

I recently changed the plugs and wires and now going to replace the fuel filter. Any other suggestions?

BTW, how difficult is the fuel filter to access?

Thanks!

Fuel filter is up in the passengers side rear wheel well and not that hard to get to at all. I have heard of folks removing the wheel to get more access but it's never been that big of a deal to me. YRMV.

One add on to the changing of the filter: probably worth hitting it with PB Blaster a few times a day or two in advance to loosen up the fittings.

Are you throwing any codes when you truck is having these power problems?

I was getting the code P1316 before changing the plugs and wires.

1316 I think means excessive emissions that could cause damage to your cats...

If the fuel filter doesn't fix the issue with the surging, you might (key word with this stuff is might) have an issue with your coil pack.

Mine was having similar symptoms and that's what fixed it...
I picked up one on ebay fairly cheap to use as a trade out (stealership can be expensive to say the least)
