Well I had my series running nice and sweet after the pertronix igntion, and coil. Did a few short spins and all was well.

Took her out for fuel, and all of a sudden , loss of power, have to keep the rpms up to get any forward motion, she's backfiring and cannot keep her idle.

I added fuel, problem persisted, checked the pump, while there is some buzzing to be heard from the pump, it does not sound like it use too.

Could I be missing something else?

Ohh I did a compression check this morning and I surely some rings in this baby.

Thanks

I'm interested in the solution. Sounds like same problems I had with my SIII a few weeks ago. I lurched her home, pushed her some, but made it back. I cleaned out the fuel sediment jar, added and in-line and then she ran fine. When I rebuilt the carb I noticed a main jet was clogged.

Am curious what the verdict will be.

I can't say I've ever heard a 2.5 fule pump "buzz", so not sure what you mean there. Easy test is to pull the fuel line hose from the carb and operate the pump by hand. You should get significant squirts from the line. Also remove the inlet hose and old your finger over the opening and again pump by hand. You should feel definite suction.
Alternatively you can hook up a pressure/vacum tester to the appropriate side to test it.

I apologize for my mistake :(

The series I bought has an electric fuel pump..

I rebuilt the weber carb 34 ich this winter and did a good cleaning. jets were fine, float was good, accl pump membrane was changed etc etc.

I swapped to electronic igntion and once the new coil was installed she ran sweet. Took her out for a short trip and all hell broke loose. spat and gurgled, backfired, can not keep an idle just dies flat out.

Anyways I decided to pull the head, do the timing chain etc etc.. This is my first attempt at pulling a head and doing work on the engine. I just hope that the bottom portion is in good shape..

OHH I certainly will return to the good ol' mechanical pump..

I did a compression test before she went to hell in a handbasket and the numbers were dismal nothing more than 105 110 and a couple of 95. I did not do a wet compression test, I was a bit floored.. So the lump will be rebuilt.

For those of you that have done such work I am in dire need of assistance in the matter of rebuilding a 2.25.

Thanks

Electric fuel pumps can go to hell and yet still make the buzzing noise. The only real way to diagnose them is to unhook the line and see if it is pumping. Sometimes the tone does change when they get screwed up.
