Fuel pump rebuild

The diaphragm failed a few days back, sending petrol out the little vent hole. I've got a rebuild kit and I've done this six or eight times over the years. But since I have so many check valves, I might as well replace those, too. Now the workshop manual just calls for "staking" the valves in place, i.e., peen over a few places on the valve's recess. Is there a better way?

Cheers

Yes.

Step 1. Remove old Fuel Pump

Step 2. Apply metal object to said Fuel Pump with extreme prejudice. Bonus Points will be given if said Fuel Pump becomes a projectile and destroys your neighbor's BMW.

Step 3. Order a new one.

Step 4. Install new one.

Step 5. Eat Sammich.

Step 6. Offer Beers with neighbor since you destroyed his BMW.

Step 7. Pass out.

Done.

Well, it's a moot point right now. Had so many parts in the back, I forgot I had brand new - mechanical - fuel pump in a box. Bought it at a rally somewhere/sometime a while back for not much coin.

I'll rebuild it...after all, it's the *original* - from 1972.
