97 d-1 a-evap - Fuel Pump replaced 3 years, 25,000 miles ago with full OEM assembly.

When I key "on", the pump hums, and builds pressure. As the pump shuts off, before I hit the starter, the truck makes a burp, or a squeak, more like a honk, as the fuel system gets fully pressurized.

Only after the truck has sat for several hours.

It sounds like the relay is shutting a valve and fuel is squeaking through the seals as it closes.

What does DWeb say?

Is this a sign of pending doom?

Thanks.

have you checked the fuel pressure @ the rail ?
how old is the fuel filter ? ( ethanol sucks)
have some one turn the key whil you try to pinpoint the exact location of the "burp" ...filter area , fuel rail, regulator, pump

Excellent questions...

38 psi before start, even 30 at idle. Strong and steady pulse while revving.

Filter is 3 or 4yrs, 30k, probably could be replaced, and may be the source of the noise. Good point.

The noise is intermittent on a cold truck ("cold" fuel pump), so the pinpointing exercise may take awhile.

Thanks.
