fuel tank level?

ok, 96 disco se7,Monday afternoon filled up the gas tank and then after half hour noticed that fuel gauge only registers half way [ filled tank, 19 gallons] if I drive the gauge creeps down to 1/4 mark, but when I sit in the driveway with key on run position [engine not running] the needle will creep upto 3/4+ mark and when starting to drive after a few minutes creeps back down to the 1/4 mark region.... is this a sign that the fuel level sender is going south on me? any thoughts are welcome -Andy

Could be the level sender - tap into the wires under the rear cargo area's access plate & see what the resistance is. If that's OK, then I'd look for a bad ground circuit from the instruments.
