Is anyone selling or know where to find a winch basket shown on the G4 Discovery's? I've tried a Google search only to come up empty handed. I have an A-frame brush guard that was with it when I bought my 04. Is it possible to mount this basket on my front bumper and keep my factory brush guard...any help or comments would be greatly appreciated, I'm new to the discovery scene and don't know where to look.

well, I know it is not the best set up, I would rather go with an ARB bumper, but I can't afford something like that now, I figured this would be a cheaper and temporary alternative...any help/suggestions? Thanks.

I know in my small town that i live in there are several metal fab shops. I had one look into building me a 1/2 rack and a rear bumper. He had never built one for a rover but he had some good plans and pictures of jobs he had done on other makes of trucks. If you find a good shop they can do a really nice job usually cheaper than any rover parts store you also save on shipping and can meet the guy whos going to be building it which is nice because you can check out the plans and talk one on one, face to face....on the otherhand if you find a shaddy shop it will end up looking like shit....Feelin lucky?

I'd assume that the G4 winch basket is OEM.. therefore, expect to pay top dollar for it.. I wouldn't doubt it to be more then an ARB.. for ~800, an ARB or a TJM is definitely worth it.

Mantec probably made it- it kills approach angle.

Check out the under-bumper winch mount at DAP.

Yeah, that under bumper winch mount is what I'm looking for...a way to have a winch without having to buy a new bumper, the DAP winch mount says it only covers up to 2002 model's, mine is an 04, would it still work? Thoughts/suggestions are welcome. Thanks

Search around for "discrete winch mount" .. thats what i've been seen them called before..

If you're going places that you're going to need a winch, why not improve your approach angle also and put some protection in the front?

I'm not sure if there's any difference in the underside of the front between the 02 and 04. I know my 04 has some kind of steering protection bar thing behind the bottom of the bumper- but those can be removed.

I was doing a little bit of searching and found this mounting system at bearmach....http://www.bearmach.com/acatalog/Online_Catalogue_Winching_Equipment_20.html then I also found the one at dap-inc...http://www.dap-inc.com/homeframe.htm the pictures look nearly the same...the bearmach site says their mount fits the "facelift" for 2003 and up. The mount at dap says from 99-02, anyone have any experience with any of these mounts? Whats up with that? I think I could make it fit in there...question: Would removing that steering protetion make my steering vulnerable? or would the new winch mount protect it? Sorry for all of the questions, again I'm new to Land Rovers, just wanting to have some fun!

DAP is a Bearmach dealer- call them, ask for Al and he'll tell you what's up. It's a nice winch mount. The winch mount would be in the same space as that stock bar- so it's no biggie to remove it. The mount is also compatible with the Bearmach steering guard- you just have to make sure to mention to them whe you order because I think there's two different ones...

This may be more of an opinion/pref question, but if I were to go with that DAP discreet winch mount, would the performance level not be as good as if it were on a arb. The discreet winch mount seems to be really low, a good 8-10 inches lower than what it would be mounted on a arb bumer? Thoughts/suggestions...thanks.

performance as in the actual performance of the winch, or performance of your vehicle?

Your vehicle's performance will be greatly affected by reducing your approach angle.

As for the winch just being mounted lower, I couldn't think of any reason the performance will be affected, people winch from all different angles (just imagine, someone stuck in mud, they could be a good 30" lower then stock height)

I found that winch basket at rover connection, runs about $980. The price is high when compared to that discreet mount. Anybody already install a discreet mount? Comments welcome....
