Just in case I don't feel comfortable installing the fuse box right now, wiring the unit directly to the battery with the same gauge wire will work just fine?

Wiring the 276C with 22 gauge wire should suffice. You can also get the wire at West Marine.

Tim> I really like your idea, I have a D1 and the Home Link System is pretty much useless w/o to much hastle. So I was thinking of finding a nice aftermarket compass/temperature gauge. and installing it there. But I do like the Nav Sys. Idea much better.

I think so too. just trying to figure out how to fab a plastic trim piece for the overhead light extension, I guess I could try and deal with a dealer for the original piece and try to piggyback it. If anyone has any other ideas please chime in. I e-mailed ECR but they were not willing to share or sell parts :( not that I can really blame them as they are in biz to make a living but I'm in CA and they are not an option.

It is better for it to be operational with the car off. When I use my Stretpilot to dummy me through trips, it drives me nuts when I stop to get gas and the thing has to go through all the motions again when I start the Rover. I used to have it hardwired.

where i'm at right now, duh...
why not leave the light where it is and mount the base between the light and rear mirror? I was playing around with my mount and it seemed to work nicely there. it doesn't interfere with the mirror either. I'll take a pic tomorrow if this doesn't seem clear.

Just put a small metal back plate on the inside to secure the mount to, and that should work fine.

I've been toying with the idea of moving the front overhead light back a little and mounting my 276c in its place. East coast rovers did that to mount some guages in a project vehicle listed on their site, not sure how to fab the extension piece for the light though... anyone got any ideas? it looks like a clean install and if you use an external antenna it looks like it could be done. here is a link http://www.eastcoastrover.com/168.html if the link works scroll down.

Thanks,

Tim

I have had my 176C here for years and I have found it very convenient. It is easy to see, reach, and you can loosen it and swivel it around for the passenger to use.
