Hello all. First thread, introducing myself with a quick question. I am looking at buying my first disco, and I am pretty pumped about it.

My question is, what kind of mileage do most get with a disco(II)? Are there any EFI programs out there to help tune it out a little bit? Exhaust/cat delete and the usual mods help gas mileage?

Everything I have found says 12-14 city/ 15-18 out on the open roads. Is this about right?

Thanks!

With my ~5" lift on 33s (Huge rack on it too), I was getting 11.75mpg avg. After gutting my cats I'm now averaging 12.6 mpg. Nice little bump. Still some crappy gas mileage, but its a fun truck.

When it was almost stock I'd get 13-14mpg avg. It always sucked.... gas.

you could look at MPG in two ways. Actual how many miles you can go per gallon, or how far you can go before your "low gas" light comes on (either way yes you are getting the same basic number if you multiply the MPG avg to how many gallons you have). I like to look at how far I can go. I go about 310-320 miles to a tank just as the light comes on. Its around 16-17 MPG thats mostly city driving, with a fairly easy foot on the skinny pedal. Thats with 2" lift, rock sliders, and 31" tires.

14 is the best I've ever got in the city on a tank. I did get around 16 on a trip this summer.
My D2 gets far worse mileage if I don't burn 91 ontane fuel.

All in all
Welcome to the dark side-so to speak.

Got any pics of your gutted cats? No inspections where I live and I wouldn't mind gaining a couple mpg.

Greetings. You should reasonably expect 12-15 mpg overall.

Yup.

I'm getting around 13mpg in town. I'm getting 17ish highway. The brush bar and rack doesn't help matters any.

BTW, I'm running on 89 right now. Its a bit cheaper and I haven't noticed any drop in performance or mpg.

Dear frank , nobody ever bought a land rover to save money!! so if your pumped about it , then buy one and dont focus on the gas mileage cause it aint great but the rig is! if you want good gas mileage then by a scooter, otherwise good luck on your quest!

Don't gut the cats. If your county doesn't do emissions now, they will in the next two years and you will have to put new ones on.

14-16 is normal stock. I get about 13-14 with 3" lift and 33's.

When I run the rack and tent I get about 10 to 12.

I also notice a difference in relation to weather. My city mileage in the winter here (30s) is near 13-14 mpg. In the summer (110+) I'm pretty much at 10-11mpg. Just for comparision sake I'm running 2" SLS lift with 32"s with a brush bar and roof rack, rock sliders, skid plates and yata, yata.
