95 fucking dollars in the disco this morning, another 18 in the can for the lawn mower. Doesn't count as a 100$ fill, bt I spent 113$ on 28.5 fucking gallons of fucking gas.

The best way that I have found to save $$$ is to leave my Disco at the mechanics shop.

It is amazing how much you can save when you can't drive it....

Just budget $80 to $100 a week if you drive not and you should be fine.

I think we need some of our engineers to come on this thread and analyze gas molecules and their effect on gas mileage.

Any one have any cheep gas saving tips. I push my disco down hills and then winch it back up. Hours of fun and I save big time. See now we have have some tech :)

Only buy gas in the morning because it's cooler and thus denser and thus has more gas per unit volume. You should see at least a 2 mpg increase in fuel economy.

I usually do buy my gas in the morning - it's 15 MPG whether I buy it in the morning or the afternoon. I guess I need one of those molecular plasma gas densifyers and a turbonator.

I've had a slight increase in my fuel efficiency. Hard to see a savings since within a week they are jacking the prices up even more. What I've done to "improve" my mileage:
  • Changed Transmission Fluid & Filter to Mobil1 Syn ATF
  • Changed Diff and Transfer Case Fluids to Mobil 1 Syn 75W90
  • Changed Oil and Filter: Mobil1 Syn 20W50 and Mobil Filter (ML301 I believe)
  • Changed out the Serpentine Belt (soon to replace the drivers side idler pulley, common)
  • Had engine flushed and filled doing the BG Flush Method. Works great.
  • Check tire pressure weekly
  • Have wires/plugs (need to install)
  • Use only 93 Octane
  • Seafoam in the gas tank
  • Seafoam in the intake plenum
  • and, soon to do brake job on the truck
So far, I've had about a 3 mpg difference in city and 5-6 highway. Gone through 4 tanks since doing the majority of the above work. (I average 500 miles a week).

I wasn't serious. But I have heard good things about the plasma densifyers.

The storage tanks are underground. They don't change temperature. They probably stay a nice 40-45 degrees all year round.

Unless of course, you buy your gas 1/2 gal at a time so you only pump the fuel that was in the hose when you pulled up.

here's another tip:

ACETONE COSTS $1.25/GAL at home depot. I think I'm gonna start running my truck on rocket fuel - I'll let ya know how it goes!!!:viking:

ask and ye shall get: Just ask Lefebvre, he's got the answers to all this high tech injineer jargon I cant even spell, oh wait, heres what we've been waiting for:

just BRILLIANT. Witty. charming. oooh..LOL
drivetrain, powertrain or fluid dynamics, he knows...

sorry dude, had to do it...

anyways

I usually just bite the bullet on fuel costs, but this $4 gallon + crap is driving me nuts

Now, I'm no engineer, but I do have ATs as well as MTs for tires, I get a few extra mpgs from running street rubber when I'm keepin it on asphalt.

I've also been thinking about my roof rack, while its only 8 clamps on the drains its still a pain, but the rack costs me easy 1-2mpg getting worse as i go faster

I also have gear tools and such for wheeling I really dont need in the truck all the time. I'm not gonna go ripping off bumpers, but the only thing for sure is i had better mileage stock...

only the best engineers keep their rigs stock tho..

yeah, I hear theres a LR engineer testing 100octane for a disco...:p

lets see what he come sup with to save gas, besides 'buy it in the morning' or that the tanks are consistent temps year round, go put that unjuneeer dugree to werk

he designs defenders, did ya know?
:smilelol:

I changed all my oils to 3-in-1 oil.
It's thinner, so it will have less resistance to turning the parts.
I removed the serpentine belt for less drag on the engine.
I removed the recovery gear from the back, took off the roof rack, the doors, the hood, all the window glass, the bumpers & the seats.

I pump my gas directly from the center of the earth. That's way underground so it must be almost, like, freezing.
