Hi

I recently had my gas tank changed from the dealer and as i was close to empty yesterday i had a strong fuel smell. I filled tank up and it went away. Funny thing is that i had this problem even before i changed the tank. I checked for leaks and i don't see any. Dis anyone encounter such a problem.
thanks

I have the same fuel smell, and like you I believe it occurs more when the tank is empty and on a hot day.
I had thought previously that it was other parts in the fuel system and have changed them but I still have the odor. I'm waiting for my tank to be replaced- I believe it is the last item other than the high-pressure fuel lines to be replaced on my truck, and I hope the smell will go away.
It sounds like you're doing the opposite- starting with the new tank and now having to replace the other components.

Things you may look for that I have changed, in trying to diagnose this problem:
Charcoal cannister, filler neck, filler cap, "tip over valves" (should be with new tank, though), fuel pump gasket.

If you can, I would check the work done by the dealer and make sure your fuel filler neck was tightened fully and that the breather lines that route from the fuel tank to the filler and forward to the charcoal cannister are not cracked or disconnected.
Good Luck
