There is a new gas station here in town that offers 89 octane fuel that has no ethanol. The rest of the fuel including premium has ethanol. What would be better off for the vehicle. I have always used premium. Just thought it may be worth the discussion.

Here's my scientific test results:

  • Chevron 91 with Techron - 12 mpg
  • Sinclair 92 with 10% ethanol - 12 mpg
  • Costco 91 with 10% ethanol - 12 mpg
  • Costco 87 with 10% ethanol - 12 mpg
  • Podunk gas station 87 with god knows what - 12mpg
  • Gas tank full of piss - 12 mpg
  • Flying J 85 (high altitude) with no ethanol - 12 mpg

Draw your own conclusions.

I don't think the mileage arguement applies that much on a modified Disco that's already getting shittier than normal gas mileage. Your going to get opinions both ways on octane, but the computer is going to compensate for knock. If your at the high end and the computer has to dial the timing back, you'll lose some mpg. If your already at 10, like me, then yea, maybe give it a try. Some people throw codes, some don't. I figure a few extra dollars at the pump is not where I want to go cheap. I'll stick with premium (ethanol or not).
