Gas tank recall issues

In setting up an appointment with LR about new tank they tell me I may incur charges for any parts they break in the process of replacing the tank. Has anyone experienced this and what did they hit you with. Can they really get by with charging for parts they break in dealing with a recall item.

Thanks for your response.

Biggest load of crap I've heard in a while. Could they have actually meant that any non-rover parts that may become broken during the repair are not covered under warranty? Like if your 3" suspension lift springs a spring while they've got it on the lift, they're not responsible for it? I have a hard time believing they meant exactly what you posted. Get clarification.

My dealer told me the cost of pump was included should something happen or should the pump be pooched. But we have a very nice dealer.

I just had 96 disco repaired today. When I first took it in (early June) they indicated that there would be no charge for any item associated with the exchange of the tank. In my case they found the fuel pump could not be reused (I believe it was corrosion issues related to where it attaches to the tank) so they had to order a new pump as they had none in stock at the time and we rescheduled for today.

I have my bill in front of me and here is a list of items that were replaced all at no charge:
-labour 1. 5 hrs.
-fuel tank
-grommet
-fuel pump seal
-nut, locknut
-olive (?) fuel feed pipe
-union nut
-screw
-hose clamp
12" cable tie
-nut buster
-fuel pump
-hose clamp

I hope this is of use to you.

I paid $0.00 for a new tank and fuel pump.
Anything the dealer breaks in the process of the recall is their/LRNA job to pay. Since they are the ones initiating the recall.

Alex: Service writer at LR said if fuel lines or fuel filler pipe breaks that would be charged to me. He said these were parts that they commonly were breaking in replacing the tank.

Thanks to you all for your valued input and comments. I like my money in my pocket - not the dealers!

I also got a brand new pump and all hardware free. They explained that the fuel pump is easily damaged when removed because of it's age. They have to fix any damage that results from the tanks removal. I would let them know that you know what's going on, or take it to another dealer. Dave

I was talking to a friend that works at the rover dealer as a parts guy and he was telling me that the pump comes along with the tank but many dealers are charging for the pump in the service if they can.

I still have not done mine under recall, unfortunatly I did mine my self back a couple years ago when it started to leak:(

maybe LRNA should just give me the $$$ for the recall instead :D

Don't threaten them to take it to another dealer, they will probably drive you there! LRNA pays about 40% less per hour than a customer walking in off the street. If you were the dealer, would you rather be doing warranty work at $50 per hour or customer-pay work at $90?

Just another data point here - my tank was replaced recently under the recall, fuel gauge did not work right afterwards so they are going to replace the pump/sender assembly for free this week. I was also told that LR was covering the cost of the pump if damaged during the recall work.
