I have no interest in moving to California, but I am for gay marriage. Why should we heterosexuals have an exclusive right to the misery of marriage?

(IMO, the government should have as little as possible to say about marriage, religion, health care, gun control, and many other topics - less government is better government)

I find it highly disgusting. I'm no Bible banger, either. It's just plain gross.

What does the government have to do with marriage anyway? I thought marriage was a religious rite?

Why must the state issue a license for the ordinance to take place? I don't need the states endorsement to join or a church, for baptism, confirmation, or communion, and if the state demanded a roll in any of those rites they would face a revolution! So, why does the citizenry accept government interference with the rite of marriage?

And if the state issues a license; doesn't the state then implicitly retain the power to revoke that license?

Just remove all the tax and benefits' provisions related to spouses (or extend them to anybody filling the function of domestic partners or caregivers), and the issue will go away.

Couldn't agree more. The absolute worst part about getting married was having no choice but to go down to the county administrative building and be forced to pay some ugly little troll to read off a paper about how my wife and I should be aware that the other might have a sexually transmitted disease.

California or homosexuality or both?

Well, both, really.

But unless it's some lip-stick lesbian action, homosexuality is very disturbing to me.

The problem with this ruling is that now the liberal Kalifornia state will find it must inject this ruling into all areas and organizations within and outside the state. There will be no 'freedom', either private or religious.

This may also become a Presidential election issue - judicial activism. The people of California have already expressed their position by defining marriage. The supreme court ignored them.

Obama is for activism, McCain against.
