Anybody got some pics of a GDE bumper modded to fit a winch?
Or the rarer than rare official GDE winch bumper?

If you don't know what a GDE bumper is...put the pipe down and step back from the computer.

A $2300 winch/bumper option in 1990/91 for the GDE (RARE). I've got a friend that has OR had a GDE RR but not sure his had the winch, I'll have to ask him sometime.

There was a GDE bumper/winch for sale on Defender Source a few months back I believe.

not sure, but I'm pretty sure it was a promotional GDE and not one of the real ones w/ winch.

good, now I won't feel bad about posting a pic of his truck :D

you'll have to do something about the winch handle angle, and probably wire it "backwards" so the in and out are flipped

That's a good shot.

I'd love to see an underneath angle...or if you could unbolt it for a few minutes?? ha ha

Just trying to see how I want to hack up my GDE to fit a winch; wonder what size will fit??

What kind of bracing, etc.

I could get an ARB...but it doesn't say "R A N G E R O V E R" stamped on the front.
That's what makes the GDE cooler.
That and NLA status.

or you could get a JBS rovertym bumper

You talkin' about the ol skool thick-front type?
Still kinda tacky IMO.

I'll probably just hack my GDE up, tastefully of course, to fit a small winch inside.
Mine already has a bend in the top, so I might cut that portion out like an ARB, so a winch could fit in from the top.

How about an official official Great Divide Expedition bumper?

Tracked down in a barn in Maryland. Same as the GDE, but no "Range Rover" Stamped in it.

seen on trucks here: http://westcountyexplorersclub.com/2012/12/02/range-rover-great-divide-expedition/

and on my truck...

You looking to sell that bumper yet? lemme know

Nice video.
Husband/wife club members (in the BRLRC) used to own one of THE GDE trucks in that video.
They both died a few years ago and I don't know what ever became of the truck.

not likely. keeping the classic due to the attachement of a certain child in my life, so the LR3 is on the block instead.

you'll be the first to know if i do.

What winch did you fit in that bumper?

Any chance you could post a few pics from underneath, showing the winch if possible?

i've got a Warn 8000. it's the same as designed for it.

i had a non-winch GDE bumper on it before that i considered adapting. it's a smaller bumper and think i maybe found a tmax that would have worked had i decided to modify. still would have to have feet forward, though. i decided on using the RRC hidden winch mount instead but ultimately wound up finding this bumper. biggest issue with the non-winch GDE bumper was the lack of recovery points. with the winch GDE, there is a recovery point that sisters to the frame on either side of the winch. it's been super sturdy when i've either had to yank or been yanked. with the non-winch, i would have probably gone ahead and mounted dixon-bates with backing plates as close to the frame mount as possible.

i'll try and crawl under the truck in the morning and snap a picture. mounts with feet forward and has an extended clutch lever that comes up thru the top. winch control box is mounted in the extra battery tray area with a remote extension mounted to the bumper. its' a pretty nice clean looking install.
