Specifically the pack for cylinders 5 and 8. Anyone ran into something like this before? I can only imagine there is a wire pinched somewhere that i've yet to find.

check the wire for continuity from coil to ecu
think about it as volts go down amps go up if amps go up so does heat and then the melt can begin
my $ is on corrosion in the system allowing for the volt drop

After trying various things and 3 melted packs later it turned out to be the signal from the ECU. I reprogrammed another one to mate with the alarm. Opened up the old ECU, but no obvious signs of failure. That was a fun time waster, but at least its done now.
