GEMS Reader App Crashing before finishing :(

Hello RobertF and All,

Final my OBDLink LX arrived!
I was excited to get the GEMS Reader app v1.3 fired up on my Android device running Kitkat 4.4.4
I can get the app to open and connect to the OBDLink LX but it will soon after crash.
Sometimes after the app connects to the OBDLink LX I am able to click on the option for Adapter Reset, sadly before the app crashes before the process completes. :(

I have rebooted my device several times, cleared the data and cache of the app and still it crashes.
I really want to get my idle down from the 900rpm to the recommended 700-750 for my 96 D1 manual transmission.
If anyone has any additional insight please chime in.

Thanks in advance

is it a samsung? seems like those don't work well with the program. I borrowed an old samsung (new at the time I wrote it) so I'll see if I can duplicate and fix it this week

that was a laptop and a half ago so It'll take a little to get set back up for that since I'm not really an android guy.

Hello Robertf,
Thanks for the response and the creating of a very useful app!
Yes, my device is a Samsung Galaxy Note 4 running kitkat 4.4.4.
Any help would be appreciated.

Hello again Robert,
Curious to know what version of Android along with what model you used that was working properly.
Also for what its worth when I go into the app should I have the same button option selected as in the image provide? The image has 4.6 and auto selected.
While my truck is a 4.0 5-speed should I be selecting something different?

Thanks again

Works fine on a galaxy 4. Dont have anything newer to test it on. I did go through it and address a couple things that could cause problems, but I cant remember the damn keystore password to update the version in the app store. Working on a solution, could be up to 256^12/350000/60/60/24 days unless I can remember it

So I just spent 10 minutes trying to get v1.4 working.
I would get as far as selecting "ADAPTIVE VALUES RESET". Upon pressing the button APPLY CHANGES the app would crash every time.gems app.png

Yes Torque Pro and the OBDLink software works fine. I tried a less expensive OBD2 device and it works with Torque and the OBDLink software. I ended up getting the OBDLink LX because it was believed it would work with the software and increase the speed too. This could very well be an issue with Samsung kitkat since others got it running without a problem. I just need to get the right combo going and I should be good to go.

Hello again,
I was able to get my hands on a little trac phone running android 4.0. The app loaded right up and went through the process. I than closed the app and removed the key from the truck. I returned the key into the ignition and started the truck. The idle is still at 900rpm. At this point do I just drive it and the idle will simple go down?

Thanks

It stores stepper motor steps from closed. You might want to check your throttle cable and make sure its not hanging it open.

I very much appreciate the responses and the tech support. Thank you for creating the app! :)
I did adjust the throttle cable last year before learning this could only be done via the ECU. I will adjust the cable and report back.

Thanks

maybe check the battery cables too. For some reason on my 97 if the connections aren't perfect the idle is all over the place

Hello again,
So the battery cables have a solid connection.
I adjusted the throttle cable but all it did was make the acceleration pedal sink toward the flow. This has me scratching my head.
Sorry as I know this is out of the scope of the software you created, I'm just stomped...

I ordered a new stepper motor, when it arrives I will get it installed followed by using the GEMS software. Afterwards I'll report the results.
Thanks

One more question pertaining to post #4 on this thread.
Should I be using option #4.0 or #4.6?
Should I be using option auto or manual?
Should the engine be running during this time?

Thanks

Not running

those arent options. Its saying what the ecu is configured as. I havent set it up to allow changes, but I havent noticed any difference with those changes.
