I just changed my oil on my 4.0 Bosch Disco II, and after ensuring that the oilpan was as empty as it could possibly be, i replaced the copper washer and screwed the plug in. I refilled just as i was shown, using a mixture of 4 quarts high milage and 2 quarts of lucas heavy duty oil stabilizer (the best stuff on earth). I checked the dipstick and it's reading up until the last "L" on FULL... should i drain it right to the line, or is it harmless?

Also, I'm driving cross country from Connecticut to Colorado, and was wondering what i could to to increase my gas milage, i was considering going to 285/75R16 Wrangler M/T's... (33" inch) to raise my final gear ratio... would that really help on the flat highways in the midwest? Also, any other reccomendations would be greatly appreciated.

If it were me. I would drain it! And refill. Only don't put any Lucas in!!!!!
Bingo! Why the snake oil when you can just put good oil in it?

the tire question is an interesting one, But I feel the lager tire will decrease you gas milage. It will take more power to get the truck to move and to maintain speed up hill.

Ok here goes.
Ive been holding this back because its controversial
But
True.

Nobody reads my shit but recently i did the RTE 2 inch
with
285/65/18 BFG A/T.
Ive bitched that its a dog trailering (i do alot of trailering)
But my gas mileage has increased tremendously.

Forget about the speedo and mileage i know its way off ,and it has nothing to do with mileage.

I drive aprox 85 to 100 plus miles round trip a day.No hills flat Ocean Parkway.
ive put 35,000 miles on this 04 since i bought it in April 23 of 06 with 10,000 on it.

with the stock tires i would get 2 1/2 trips with fuel left in the tank but not enough to risk getting home.About 250 miles (not on the clock.Miles ive done everyday for 28 yrs)

with the 285/65/18 BFG im getting 3 to 3.5 trips before filling up.
to me this is amazing. i cant remember ever getting more than 322 miles out of my D1 or D2.

im going on a long haul and intend to use my GPS to calculate .

Im doing 60 mph (speedo reads 55 but i know im doing 60. 5mph for the 285/65.)
at 1,800 rpm in cruise.

I know i dont have factual numbers but the bottom line is im passing the gas station for one more round trip, and i never have before.

jim

Oh and its still a dog.
gots to do gears asap.

if you have used Lucas you will see its very clingy, stringy shit.

I like lube sticking to metal parts.

ive used it since 98.

Jim
I tried Lucas in my differentials and they freakin' screamed in protest whereas with Mobil 1 they were just fine. I'm running Amsoil now with no problems.
I'm not convinced by the little plastic gear display in parts stores.

take the oil filter off and drain that oil may be just enough to get you under the mark.

from now on buy cheap oil and change often. these engines run very dirty.

i dont know if i agree with the dirty part. i change mine way to often and it is some times yellow when it comes out after 1500 miles or so

jim...it makes sense on one hand....as the axles have to make less revolutions to travel the same distance.
