I'm looking to do the Georgia Traverse sometime this year. The group I'm organizing probably won't want to do any hardcore camping so I'm looking at hotel type options along the trail. Anyone have any recs? Other thoughts or suggestions on the Traverse in general?

Hopefully @stu454 will chime in as he tracked this route well before it got its current moniker. There are plenty of very nice improved campsites all along the way with primitive camping options aplenty too. Several State Parks may have some cabins/yurts. Only towns of notable size on the route with accommodations are Dillard and Helen. Just so you know this is stock vehicle friendly with many miles of graded gravel FS roads so don’t expect it to be Camel Trophy

Yup. Pretty sure when I did this with Stu years ago we passed a Crown Vic on Tray Mtn.
HA! Love it. No really looking for anything super aggressive - just an opportunity to reunite some friends from across a few states for some mild 4wheeling/overlanding and hanging out over a long weekend.

FWIW the Traverse map is available for Gaia, I use it sometimes just to find fire roads with campsites in North Georgia (there's POI notated along the route). Could probably poke around with it and locate nearby hotels or cabin rentals, like when it goes through Suches for example.

Attached are the route maps. They are very busy but the route for stage 1 and 2 is in blue. On stage 2 there is an alternate in yellow.

I cannot speak to the current state of the route. These maps are thirteen years old. Use them at your own risk.
