So, I took the truck in to get the vent replaced. I also asked them to check the cruise control for the "surging" and the rear seats for the rattles. I was prepared to try my own fix on the seats, but would have had to experiment a little. At first they told me they would write these issues down, but that there was probably nothing they could do...

As it turns out, they did fix the seats by simply turning around the rubber bumpers near the latch that holds the folded seat to the side of the car body. Second, "well, it turns out they did find a problem with the cruise control..." They got it to work better, but not as well as all the other cars I have had in my life, from the '89 Nissan Sentra, '90 and '91 Honda Civics, '91 Pathfinder, '97 Saab, '94 Discovery - they all had much better cruise control systems than the 2003.

Anyway, it is nice to be able to get the seats fixed - even if it were as simple as that. They are a little more snooty there when you aren't buying one of their cars. They didn't even give me a loaner, I had to walk around in the rain for 2 hours with my 2 year old while they had the car in the shop.

I now have a deal with the drivers seat... the seat itself creaks like an old wooden chair when I shift around in it, and the back and bottom seem to move back and forth, like it is loose.

About half the new SE7s are built with the 3rd-row seat bumpers installed backward, and the factory has acknowledged that the 4.6L tune for the cruise control causes surging. The fix is to reprogram the ECU with the 4.0L tune.

Front seat squeaks aren't as common as your first 2 complaints, but they're also known. Sometimes it's from the seat heating pads rubbing against the upholstery padding inside the seat, and it has to go to an upholstery shop to be disassembled & lubricated with a special spray. Others are from the power seat mechanism needing grease. Sometimes, the plastic trim is warped & has to be replaced.
