So the dealer has scheduled me for service on the drivers side vent. They say they cannot do anything about the cruise control that isn't anywhere near smooth... My '89 Pathfinder had a cruise control that could get me to the moon, but LR can't seem to figure out the idea of making it a nice experience to turn the cruise on when on a long trip.

Anyway, it has been over 90 here the past few days, and along with the drivers side vent not working I am pretty disapointed in how the AC is performing. I basically have to have it on full fan and recirculate for more than a half hour before it starts to feel like a normal temp in the car. Even then, the air coming out of the vents isn't actually cold like it should be. I drove the '94 disco yesterday and the AC works fine on that, I actually had to turn the fan and the temp down to stay warm enough on a 90+ day! I don't think the AC has ever been serviced on the '94.

Are they going to tell me that the AC is a wear item, and it won't qualify for warantee service? it has just over 19k miles on it, I would think the AC in a modern car could last for more than a few years.

Hey Ben -
I feel your pain. The cruise on my '00 Disco is really "jerky". I've never thought about taking it in, but I know what you're talking about.

I'm interested to hear the outcome on your AC issue. As you mentioned, we've had some warm weather here (I'm just up the road in Longview, WA) and the Disco's AC is just not very cold. I would be really suprised if they gave you a hard time on an AC recharge/repair at 19k miles, but you never know.

Are you taking it to Portland Land Rover? I've had mine there twice since moving to the area...its been OK, but not wonderful. It always seems to take longer than expected, very frusturating when you make appointments days/weeks in advance.

I do have an appointment, I assume this fix will take either 10 minutes, or a few days. Do they give any hassle on the loaner car? My wife will be droping it off at 9 am and I don't want them to give her any trouble.

Other people on DWeb have said they have had their CC fixed, or at least improved, but they flat out said that there simply isn't any way to fix it.

They aslo said that they will test drive it to see if the seats are too rattled in the back - guess how that one will turn out?

Well I didn't buy my Disco from LR Portland, so no loaner for me...not too suprised by that. Do you have a loaner "reserved", or are you showing up and going to assume there is one? If you bought directly from them, I'd assume you would get a loaner, but I'd also want to check to be sure.

At any rate, I would not think your truck will be back right away. My rig sat there without even being looked at for (I believe) two complete days. It was there for an ABS recall and identify/repair a fluid leak in the front - appointment made weeks in advance.

Once they got to it, things happened very quick, but it was frusturating to wait it out. Also frusturating to have to call them repeadtedly to find out what is going on. Maybe I'm just paranoid, but when oil is leaking from the front of my rig, I want to know what is wrong.

I'd check on the loaner.

How's it goin Ben? Sick of the heat yet? I have been spending so much time on the beach to escape the heat that I have started to become lazy... or maybe I always have been... hmmm.

Anyway, about your AC... I talked to a mechanic a few years back about the AC in our Honda Coupe (1999) about how it wasn't nearly as cold as our other car's AC that were mid to early 90's (like my D1). He said that the AC in the early to mid 90's cars have Freon in the AC which makes it a lot colder. The new AC systems (I think 1999 is when it started in Japanese cars and other imports) do not run on Freon because of environmental issues and the stuff they use now chemically just doesn't get as cold as Freon does.

Don't know if that was a bunch of crap or the truth but the AC in the Honda seemed to work fine, just on hot days it seemed to take a long time to get cold too. My 96 D1 is like a cooler within just a few minutes as well as my 94 Nissan car so there seems to be some merit to that therory. Hope that helps... Stay cool. :D
