CDOT does a great job of keeping i70 open in the city. I70 east of denvers closes all the time because of blowing snow. I70 west of denver usually stays open, its the passes that close most of the time. Floyd Hill closes now and again but thats usuallly to haul off all of the honda civics w/ summer tires that have collected at the bottom on either side.

 And the 4WD's bought by people that think "they can go anywhere!"

CDOT also does a good job of keeping I25 open. That said, anyone with a long commute in Colorado should have a contingency plan for closed highways between work and home.

13 miles from work to golden. no work from home, but if she or i cant get her to work, then i would guess they would prob close. they follow the "clayton" closures.

where is floyd hill?

With my job I drive all around the Denver area and have lived a few diffrent places.

Golden is a quick commute to Downtown, Arvada, Lakewood, Westminster and even south end of town such as Littleton, Highlands Ranch, Tech center can be resonable if you take 93 to 470. We rented there for a year and it was a nice place but housing is kind of strage in that town.

We are currently living in Lakewood (Morrison rd by bear lake) and so far we like it. My wife works in Arvada and I drive all over Denver but most days I start my day at the office 1-25 and Lincoln (by sky ridge) Downtown Denver and Arvada are about a 20 min commute and my commute to the south is about 30 mins.

You may look along 6th ave from Wadsworth west, quick commute and prices can be decent. East of Wadsworth starts to get a little rougher but with the new light rail going in that might change but not sure yet.

Applewood is another place to look, the houses are older but most have garages. Nice area and you are right off I-70

Highlands might be another place to check out, it is a cool / hip area with nice old brick houses just a few miles from downtown Denver. My wife loves the area and has been bugging me to buy a house in that area. Rent might be above your price range and garages are going to be harder to find but it might be worth looking at.

Downtown Denver was kind of a cool place to live, always something to do and you can walk to just about anything you want. Downside is the lack of garage but you could always rent one a little ways away.

Westminster is cheap compared to other areas but the commute sucks

Not a fan of Aurora :ack:

A commute consideration:

The closer you are to the foothills the deeper the snow during upslope storms. West of I25 can see 12"+ to over 2'. During that same storm East of I25 would get 6". Just depends but that is a fairly common front range storm.

'Sometimes' the Eastern plains are the favored areas. Monument Hill just North of me is always a favored area.

What a bitch of a commute though. Distance to his area is around an hour in traffic unless you take 470 and with the snow WAY worse. I have taken 2.5 hours to get to the airport and I am not quite in monument.

North of the palmer divide... I count on snow like the foothills or better.

I think I would look Golden to Morrison. I do like my area, but the idea of commute that direction through the denver tech center is likely no fun.

At the bottom of the hill on I70, at the Morrison Road / Hwy 93 exit are the ROAD CLOSED gates on the interstate.
At the top of that hill, at the Genesee Park exit is the other set of gates.
I live in the middle of that hill.

The REALLY silly part is that all traffic is detoured onto US40, a winding, 2-lane, hanging off the hillside little road, right next to I70.

scary.
